Job Summary
Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick (DMNB) offers a continuum of education programming in undergraduate medical education, postgraduate medical education in addition to MSc and PhD education. Over 650 faculty, distributed throughout the five regional facilities in the Horizon Health Network, support the administrative, academic and research mission of the Faculty of Medicine in New Brunswick.Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Communication Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination and/or preparation of all internal and external communications including presentations, promotional materials, reports, newsletters and articles using integrated content (writing, photography, animation and video). The Coordinator is responsible for DMNB’s on-line presence, delivery of events/activities and will serve as the liaison to media outlets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain and manage print and online information and promotional resources strategically consistent with the Faculty of Medicine’s communication plan.
  • Create page layouts with text, graphics, photographs and other visual elements to produce brochures, posters, promotional materials, annual/quarterly reports and other written documents. Manage online content including webpage and social media networks working within the University branding standards ensuring content is current and links are active.
  • Respond to requests for information from the media or designate an appropriate spokesperson or information source.
  • Under the direction of the DMNB executive sponsor and the faculty lead and in collaboration with the leadership and staff of the FoM Admissions, the incumbent will be the administrative/operational lead for the delivery of the multiple mini-interviews in NB. This includes recruiting assessors, providing orientation for assessors, booking a venue, and ensuing catering, equipment and supplies are coordinated.
  • Lead the coordination of special events including public receptions, events/activities, dinners, meeting, ceremonies, site visits and university promotional tours.


Note
Some evening and weekend work is required. Occasional travel as necessary to learn, support and interact with other units.

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a related field (such as English, journalism, public relations/communications), plus three to five years’ related experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience) is required. Formal training in project management is considered an asset. Formal training in latest version of Adobe suite including Adobe Photoshop, illustrator, InDesign and Dream Weaver required. Experience with various software packages required, including Microsoft Desktop Publisher, Excel and Word required for processing and data management functions. Training in HTML and CQ5 is an asset. Experience in a post-secondary education, health care or government environment is preferred. Demonstrated experience in designing both print and web based materials required, as well as proven ability to write for a variety of audiences in various formats.
