Bilingual Development Communications Coordinator

Victoria, BC, Canada

Job Description

Bilingual Development Communications Coordinator
JDRF is the largest non-profit organization in the world that is exclusively focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D). At JDRF, we realize that a cure is not just a destination but a journey. Our goal is to progressively remove the impact of type 1 diabetes (T1D) from people’s lives and funding research into cures is our #1 priority. While we wait for cures, we also fund ground-breaking research that seeks to improve the lives of people with T1D.
In January 2021, JDRF Canada launched its $100M Campaign to Accelerate, a bold fundraising initiative that aims to transform our approach to T1D research, redesigning it for speed and maximizing our impact. It will move us beyond insulin and accelerate towards cures.
This is an exciting time to join JDRF as the Campaign will rally volunteers from coast to coast to help us raise $100 million over the next five years to bring innovative and life-changing therapies to patients and families faster, and to ensure that Canadians living with T1D have greater access to lifesaving technology and mental health supports that help more people thrive.
We’re currently seeking a Bilingual Development Communications Coordinator to join our Leadership Giving Operations team to coordinate and write a broad range of development communication materials in both English and French that support cultivation and solicitation activities and that spark a donor’s imagination – aligning their interest with JDRF-funded research.
In this position, you would have the opportunity to:

  • Coordinate and write compelling development communications (letters, stewardship reports and leadership gift proposals) in both French and English for various stakeholders including volunteers, donors and prospects
  • Understand the JDRF brand, voice and impact of JDRF-funded research and communicate complex information for a lay audience
  • Create workback schedules, coordinate project deliverables, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and coordinate approvals required for Leadership Giving campaign materials
  • Prepare translations of various development communications pieces
  • Coordinate communication content by maintaining the Development Resource Library
  • Coordinate layout and production of communication pieces
  • Support other communications needs for the Leadership Giving team and perform other duties related to writing as needed.

Does this sound like the opportunity you’ve been waiting for? If you have the following qualifications, we’d love to hear from you!
  • Bilingual in French and English, with the ability to write communications in both languages
  • 2-4 years of related experience in a journalism or communications setting, such as writing for a non-profit organization and post-secondary education in marketing, communications, journalism or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Professional writing experience in French and English that includes assignments in the health-care sector, advancement/fundraising rating or related
  • Experience writing for a range of audiences and communications channels, with emphasis on proposals, technical reports, briefing documents, presentations and speaking notes
  • Compelling storyteller with the ability to adjust style and tone to suit the target audience
  • Persuasive and creative and able to communicate the impact of research and programs to donors & volunteers
  • Excellent expository writing skills and a strong command of grammar, punctuation and syntax
  • Ability to compose and self-edit
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to track and plan numerous concurrent communications assignments to meet project deadlines, while producing high-quality work
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills and accustomed to working collaboratively in a multi-stakeholder culture
  • Proficient in MS Office, including Word, PowerPoint; working knowledge of InDesign is an asset
