Status: 2 Contract Full-time positions with an end date of December 31, 2024 Salary Range: $69,273 - $86,593 per annum + plus comprehensive benefits Work Mode: Hybrid *see below for more details about this work mode Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

Reporting to the Manager Strategic Client Communications (Transformation), this position provides support developing and implementing transformation communications, internally and externally, across various stakeholder groups, during a time of transition for Peel, as Peel sets to dissolve by December 2024. This is an opportunity for someone who is ready to tackle change communications head-on, and work on a high-performance team to make a difference to the staff, residents and businesses in Peel.


This position works closely with the Communication Specialist to meet the business communication needs by executing integrated communications solutions.


Applying a change management lens, in this role you will implement the communications, strategies and plans for all Peel Region transformation communications. You\'ll work with a cross functional team of Project Managers, Communications professionals, government relations, and Human Resources team members.


The Communication Co-ordinator contributes to building and maintaining positive relationships with designated internal partners through the delivery of effective and timely communications. This position plays a role in creating a collaborative culture that supports dynamic and innovative communication solutions.
What you will do in this role:

Media relations

  • Prepare media clippings daily by reviewing coverage in local and GTA print and electronic media
  • Provide support to the Communication Specialist with the development of media materials such as media alerts, news releases, backgrounders and fact sheets
  • Provide support to the Communication Specialist with the planning and execution of communication activities for photo opportunities, media briefings and news conferences
  • Review editorial calendars and identifies opportunities for designated portfolios
  • Develop and pitch story ideas to targeted media outlets as assigned
  • Prepare media coverage reports

Strategy development, execution and evaluation
  • Provide support to the Communication Specialist with the development, implementation and evaluation of communication strategies by conducting research and participating in brainstorming sessions

Creative and promotional writing
  • Research and write a variety of communication materials as assigned. Written materials may include Intranet stories, media alerts, employee profiles, invitations, news releases, advertisements, brochure and poster copy, web content
  • Edit and proofread written materials of other section staff, following Peel Region brand guidelines and visual standards and the framework for writing feature
  • Stories and news releases

Event planning and execution
  • Provide support to the Communication Specialist with the planning and execution of communication activities for special events such as award ceremonies, unveiling and conferences

Co-ordination of web, social media, graphic design, video and photography projects
  • Work closely with section staff, external vendors and internal partners to co-ordinate the execution of simple web, social media, graphic design and video projects with supervisor approval
  • Monitor project progress and provides updates to the Communication Specialist and internal partners
  • Work with professional photographers by co-ordinating and attending photo shoots
  • Take photos for internal partners as assigned

Crisis communications
  • Provides communication support during a crisis as assigned in the Communications section emergency response

Leadership and collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with team members and other section staff to brainstorm ideas, seek feedback, share experiences and information
  • Work collaboratively and shares best practices and business tools with other section staff to build synergies across the section and the division
  • Raise issues related to the quality of communication activities with the immediate supervisor; contributes to the investigation of concerns and conflict resolution
  • Recommend ways to increase the effectiveness of the policies, standards, guidelines and processes that support Communications by identifying gaps/barriers and suggesting improvements
  • Participate in learning and development activities as recommended by the immediate supervisor as well as in section-wide learning and development opportunities
  • Stay up-to-date with communications industry trends and best practices
  • Follows Regional values within the team, division and the Corporation

Administration
  • Maintain a database of digital images appropriately including naming and saving images in accordance with the section\xe2\x80\x99s standards
  • Complete entries in the time management database meeting reporting deadlines
  • Keep the immediate supervisor informed of project timelines, status, overall workload and issues/concerns
  • Attend team meetings and touch-base meetings with the immediate supervisor
What the role requires:
  • A university degree or college diploma in public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field
  • Combined with a minimum of 1 to 3 years of communication experience in corporate communications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Skills & Abilities:
  • Thorough knowledge of communication and change management principles
  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading and verbal skills
  • Knowledge of media relations principles and experience working with media
  • Basic photography skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Outlook
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and time management skills
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and deliver projects on time in a dynamic environment
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision and direction

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton worksite. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.
