What to expect in the role:

Job overview
Reporting to the Communications Manager and working with the Communications and Fund Development team, the Communications Coordinator will support the development and execution of the annual communications and marketing plan to elevate Distress Centre\xe2\x80\x99s agency profile, reputation and image in the community. This is an exciting time to join the Communications and Fund Development team! We are working on many new initiatives in 2023 and we are seeking a passionate individual to join us in this work.


Primary Duties

This is not an exhaustive list of duties, but meant to give you a sense of what you\xe2\x80\x99ll be doing on a regular basis. Other related duties may be required.
Marketing and Content (60%)

  • Develop engaging content \xe2\x80\x93 both visual and written \xe2\x80\x93 to publish on social and digital platforms (web, emails) in line with the social media and content marketing strategic plans. Interviewing, writing and editing will be required
  • Coordinate the execution of social media strategy: scheduling and publishing content, engaging in social listening and research to find appropriate content to share and engaging with the online community, ensuring consistent brand voice
  • Coordinate the digital presence of Distress Centre \xe2\x80\x93 updating DC websites, agency profiles, ensuring updated and SEO-friendly content
  • Providing photography and video production work as needed, including light editing
  • Work with Distress Centre programs \xe2\x80\x93 such as fund development, volunteer program, ConnecTeen, etc. - to provide marketing support

External relations (30%)
  • Work with the Communications Manager to support the implementation of the media strategy. This may include liaising with media, writing key messages and press releases and tracking media mentions
  • Oversee the attendance of resource fairs, presentations and other external events by ensuring DC participants are prepared, materials are provided, branding is correct and attendance is recorded. The Communications Coordinator will attend some events
  • Assess the need for and monitor the use of promotional or printed materials. Update materials as needed and to ensure consistent branding



Reporting (10%)
  • Compile analytics and develop reports on marketing initiatives to inform strategy



Hours of work and conditions

General working hours are 9am \xe2\x80\x93 5pm, however we ask for some flexibility to work the occasional evening and weekend as needed.


This is a hybrid role requiring some days in the office with the flexibility to work some days from home, if desired.


What you bring to the role:

Qualifications/Experience
  • Post-secondary education in communications, marketing or a related field
  • 1-3 years of experience in communications, marketing or a related field



Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent writing, editing and interviewing skills
  • Ability to develop content for a variety of audiences and business needs. Graphic design experience considered an asset
  • Photography and video experience considered an asset
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to adjust writing/communication style based on audience, platform and format
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Passionate, engaged and willing to learn new skills and technology
  • Organizational and problem solving skills with a keen attention to detail, a high degree of accuracy, and excellent time management and prioritization skills
  • Knowledge and experience working with marketing software, such as WordPress, CRMs, email marketing software like Constant Contact, social media scheduling software, etc., as well as proficiency with Office 365
  • Knowledge and experience working with design software like Adobe Suite and Canva is considered an asset
