Your opportunity:
Working closely with the Communications Officer, the Communications Assistant will coordinate projects and other strategic initiatives for New College. The incumbent be responsible for writing and editing promotional and outreach materials and advising on social media trends and platforms to enhance digital communication strategies.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating tasks for projects and other strategic initiatives with stakeholders
  • Producing promotional and outreach materials
  • Writing and editing digital communications
  • Analyzing and recommending options for the development of visual expression/layout of digital assets
  • Advising on strategies to align websites with marketing/communication objectives
  • Creating and editing web pages with interactive media
  • Advising on social media trends and platforms to enhance digital communication strategies
  • Maintaining information on digital platforms
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in communications, marketing, or journalism, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum four years of recent and related experience in preparing communication content, design and production of publications and newsletters, promotional material, and website content maintenance.
  • Experience coordinating and implementing creative communication initiatives, preferably in a non-profit or an academic environment.
  • Experience writing, editing content for publication and promotion, design layout, production and distribution in hardcopy, electronic format, and on websites.
  • Experience administering social media platforms and writing for a web audience.
  • Experience supporting faculty with writing grant applications.
  • Experience preparing speaking materials.
  • Experience with communication metrics, website analytics, and preparing statistical reports.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe Creative Suites, WordPress, Drupal and other similar content management systems.
  • Familiarity with posting, tagging, and sharing procedures in popular social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Reddit, etc.)
  • Demonstrated skills in both PC and MAC operating systems.
  • Exceptionalproofreading and editing skills.
  • Working knowledge of graphic design principles of for digital and print communication.
Assets (Nonessential):
  • Knowledge of and experience with New College.
  • Basic familiarity with some HTML5 and CSS code markup tags (e.g. hyperlink reference, image holder, divider section, RGB color hash code, or font tags, etc.).
  • Experience using FTP/SFTP/SCP file transfer protocols and ZIP/TAR package management.
  • Basic understanding of SQL database queries.

USW Pay Band 09 -- $60,006 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $76,739. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
