The purpose of this position will be to assist with day-to-day activities related to monitoring, maintaining and updating the online resources for this organization. This position will be expected to be able to carry out changes to the online resources, and will liaise with the organizations who our team has partnered with to develop these resources to facilitate more substantial changes. This position will be expected to track changes to online resources in diligent fashion and keep accurate, consistent records. This position will also be involved in setting up and maintaining social media tools for communications about the organization.Organizational Status:The overall goal of the WWEST British Columbia and Yukon program is to support intersectionality and diversity, and to provide equitable and inclusive learning and working environments for underrepresented persons in science and engineering. The WWEST program is grounded within the themes of Inclusion, Collaboration, and Innovation. Through classroom visits, Intergenerational Events, on campus events, and social media, WWEST works towards the goal of building connections and interest in STEM retention for years to come. This position will report directly to the project\'s Principal Investigator and to the Project Manager.Work Performed:

  • Updates and maintain website
  • Monitors and maintains online resources (website, training courses, app, and online resources) and makes minor changes when needed.
  • Liaises with professional website developers regarding more substantial changes required for revisions or updates to online resources.
  • Supports team in collecting, maintaining, organizing metrics and data to be used for program reporting
  • Organizes, maintains and updates databases and records to track feedback and online resource changes and updates.
  • Participates in project evaluation activities including data collection, conducting interviews and/or online surveys with stakeholders and end-users of the website and resource materials.
  • Provides support and communication to community partners to aid in community-based data collection and evaluation processes.
  • Utilizes platforms such as Buffer to support cross-posting and data collection
  • Support developing a network within the STEM community
  • Support the WWEST team in maintaining current partnerships
  • Create new partnerships and networks to support WWEST programming
  • Develops and maintain a social media presence for the project (Facebook, Instagram and other social media sites as deemed appropriate and needed by the WWEST team).
  • Communicates with partners and advisory committee members in order to share the products/documents with them, receive their feedback and integrate their feedback to the online products/documents.
  • Prepares documents, including correspondence, reports, newsletters, posters, and presentations.
  • Attends community sites in person (where Covid safety plans are in place) to liaise with community partners and participants, communicate about project activities, provide further training as needed in the use of project resources, recruit participants for data collection activities and provide support to site partners for engaging with project components.

  • Support the WWEST team in facilitation of programming and events when required
  • Perform other related duties as required in the development and promotion of WWEST
Consequence of Error/Judgement:Errors or lapses in judgment in the multifaceted role described, could lead to a range of consequences. These may include miscommunication or misrepresentation and thereby damage to the organization\'s online reputation, lower attendance at events, or hurtful or inappropriate messaging. Such errors may not only impact the immediate success of these initiatives but also hinder the organization\'s overall mission and standing in the provincial STEM community. The individual in this role must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive to mitigate these potential consequences and ensure the seamless execution of diverse responsibilities.Must exercise judgment based upon thorough knowledge of procedures, guidelines, and regulations. Inappropriate judgment or error on the part of the research assistant may impact the integrity and quality of the research, and the credibility and sustainability of the project.Supervision Received:Works under the supervision of the WWEST Program Manager and under the Direction of Dr. Jennifer Jakobi.Supervision Given:None.Education/Work Experience:QUALIFICATIONSMinimum
  • High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred
  • Completed undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (preferably computer science, or other relevant discipline such as health or social science combined with computer experience)
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with community-based partners and stakeholders.
  • Ability to conduct searches throughout articles, books and the web to identify relevant documents and resources.
  • Superior organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify key information and issues, and effectively resolve them.
  • Attentive to detail, with the ability to work quickly and accurately.
  • Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Excellent computer skills and ability to learn and adapt to new and emerging software and systems. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, and WordPress. Training in the use of UBC Qualtrics will be provided.
  • Prior experience working with interview and survey data an asset.
  • Prior experience working with online learning platforms will be an asset.
  • Prior experience with developing social media content will be an asset.
  • Prior experience with website and/or app development and maintenance will be an asset.
  • Understanding of Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) field is an asset
