Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, the Communications Advisor develops, implements, and evaluates a wide variety of communications projects and programs for internal and external audiences. Working within a creative and supportive team, you will be given an opportunity to develop your knowledge of traditional and digital media, project management skills, and written and verbal communications abilities.

Core Accountabilities

Develop communications plans and manage the delivery of multiple communications projects including traditional, digital, and social media initiatives within set deadlines. Enhance existing external and internal publications by recommending a variety of approaches in the production and distribution of the County's marketing and communications. Understand audiences relative to Rocky View County and assess appropriate communication needs. Research, analyze, plan, implement, and evaluate communication programs. Attend various internal and external meetings to maintain awareness of key initiatives or issues affecting the County. Assist in the creation and distribution of general information to the public, media, and internal audiences to keep our greater community apprised of events and promote opportunities for participation and engagement. Provides media relations services under the guidance of the Manager, Marketing & Communications, including preparing and distributing media releases and responding to media inquiries and interview requests. Manages media monitoring services for senior management, including traditional and digital media monitoring, researching current and/or contentious issues, and preparing backgrounders, briefings, and other response tools. Maintain awareness of the County's large-scale emergency response program and be prepared to engage in all aspects of crisis and emergency communication if required. Provide in-house document review, preparation, editing and re-writing, as required, to ensure consistent message / branding of County promotional and other materials. Provide technical assistance within branding guidelines to ensure the professional presentation of written documentation, advertising, and other promotional / marketing materials. Act in a professional and responsible manner to protect the integrity of employees and the business of the County. Display a professional and ethical responsibility to protect privacy, use information appropriately, and maintain the confidentiality and security of all information related to employees, business, and residents of Rocky View County. Work in accordance with the requirements established by the RVC Health and Safety Program and the Alberta OHS Act, Regulation and Code. Take reasonable care to protect their health and safety and other persons at or in the vicinity of the worksite while they are working. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Position Requirements

Completion of a 2 year Diploma/Certificate (in related field) in a related field along with a minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible and diversified experience.

Strong time management, prioritization, organizational and decision-making ability. Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling abilities with attention to accuracy, tone, and audience needs. Superior customer service skills to both internal and external customers. Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point).
