The Community Services department is seeking an experienced Communications Advisor to provide strategic, insight-driven communications support to its Social Development branch.
You'll act as a strategic consultant, advising colleagues and leaders on the best ways to communicate projects and initiatives. This dynamic position involves quickly responding to a changing environment, developing comprehensive communications plans, and building strong relationships with a variety of internal and external partners.
As Communications Advisor, you will develop and implement communications and marketing strategies that are grounded in research and designed to achieve measurable results. As a trusted advisor, you will build relationships and provide strategic advice to the program areas you support, coordinate with internal and external partners, and ensure the delivery of accurate, transparent and high-quality deliverables.

What you will do:



Lead, develop and implement communications strategies, and marketing and public education campaigns for external and internal audiences Identify emerging issues and provide timely advice and effective strategies in response to those issues Liaise with other orders of government, community and other interested and impacted parties when appropriate Lead media relations, organize media events, develop media strategies, pitch stories to media, lead the development of responses to media inquiries, coach spokespeople and sometimes serve as a spokesperson Support Council processes (Council reports, preparation for committee and council meetings). Develop and implement creative and engaging social media strategies and content to advance department goals and enhance communication efforts Provide communications support to public engagement initiatives Write news releases, public service announcements, media advisories, brochures, newsletters and other communication products Edit, develop and update web and 311 content for programs, projects and initiatives Work with clients, designers, printers, vendors and marketing agencies to create effective communications and advertising products Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications

:Degree in a communications, public relations, or related field, supplemented by a minimum of two (2) years progressively responsible experience in a designated public relations, public affairs or public information position OR Diploma in a communications, public relations or related field, supplemented by a minimum of four (4) years progressively responsible experience in a designated public relations, public affairs or public information position

Skills required for success:



Proven experience with ability to create, develop, implement and evaluate strategic communication plans Proven ability to excel in a complex, fast based and dynamic environment Demonstrated experience with high profile, highly sensitive and political files Demonstrated competencies in assessing the impact of communication plans based on key performance indicators to reflect on what went well and apply continuous improvement strategies Superior written and verbal communication and presentation skills Demonstrated experience with traditional media relations, coaching spokespeople and acting as a spokesperson Relationship-building skills with ability to identify and manage issues through a client consulting approach Diverse community connections, including broad understanding of changing community diversity, anti-racism work and inclusionary needs, are an asset Experience related to project management and communicating with stakeholder groups Experience with advertising, print, graphic design, traditional media, social media and other web-based communications Proficiency in Google Suite, Google Applications and Gmail Demonstrate alignment with the Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, fostering an environment for others to do the same. Salary Range:

$47.418 - $59.587 (Hourly), $83,538.660 - $105,271.610 (Annually)
