As part of the ONxpress consortium, Alstom is proudly working to transform the collective mobility of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas (GTHA) through the On-Corridor Works project, and we are hiring for hundreds of roles. The GO Expansion scope: new electric locomotives, fleet upgrades, train control systems, network electrification, signalling, telecommunications and digital systems, maintenance, and much more.

Objective

The Communications Systems Engineer demonstrates leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment. In this role you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Coordinate technical aspects and lead requisitions
  • Knowledge of network hardware including servers, routers, and other computer devices
  • Use system requirements to design and deploy networks and solutions
  • Support multiple projects simultaneously
  • Develop testing, verification, and validation procedures as well as execute the procedures
  • Experience in building, maintaining and supporting VmWare, Microsoft Windows Server and Linux operating systems and servers
  • Strong project management and organizational skills. Create and maintain documentation including System Functional Specifications and Interface Control Documents
  • Trace system requirements to DOORS
  • Assist in the proposal process to insure that only sound technical solutions are offered to customers
  • Configure products for placement on the competitive landscape and define product specifications including performance, cost, and schedule
  • Implement the timely execution of product conceptual designs to meet evolving market needs
  • Coordinate design, project and system engineers during detailed design, start-up and warranty administration phases of project
  • Leverage cross-functional and cross business resources in order to maximize technical results
  • Participate in field issues and failures investigations, root causes analysis and implementation of corrective actions, lesson learned issues and consequently design standards update
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college and at least 4 years of engineering or other technical work experience
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a systems engineering role
  • Professionnal Engineering certification
Willingness and ability to travel <25% of the time

Skills:
  • Experience in project scheduling
  • Cross-platform experience in systems administration, installation, configuration, and of Servers
  • Networking, Routing, Switching, Subnetting, VLAN
  • Experience in firewall administration
  • Ability to achieve results in a matrix environment
  • Ability to understand and implement customer and industry standards
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional, global environment
  • Ability to engage and build positive relationships with both customers and internal and external employees
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership
