In more detail, as the Senior Communications Systems Engineer, you will:

  • Provide technical and operational recommendations and comments to internal stakeholders, on major construction programs that impact or involve core communication systems
  • Monitor age, physical condition, capacity, and functionality of ETS Core Communication System infrastructure to ensure it is capable of meeting safety and operational requirements
  • Manage and coordinate capital projects, while developing and administering various construction and service contracts
  • Initiate, design, and implement modifications or upgrades to the core communication systems
  • Develop and manage the preventative maintenance programs for the core communication equipment and systems
  • Develop and implement testing and commissioning programs on new, or modified systems, to ensure they operate according to design
  • Prepare technical reports and provide information as required to the general public, council, senior management and additional stakeholders
  • Monitor budget expenditures, review monthly cost statements, and assist in preparing both variance reports and year-end cost projections
  • Provide supervision and guidance to a small team of engineering professionals, technical staff and contractors involved in maintaining the various communication systems
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field of engineering
  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience in an operational technology or communications environment, including networking, data storage (SAN), server administration, fiber optics, security, public information systems, industrial controls, telephone, and radio system design, implementation, and maintenance preferably in a public transit or transportation context
  • Must be a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in good standing and registered with APEGA. Candidates in a different Canadian jurisdiction eligible for
with APEGA may be considered. Registration with APEGA must be obtained prior to commencement of employment. * Demonstrated understanding and adherence to all APEGA regulations and standards, including the ability to authenticate professional work products
  • Experience with the maintenance, repair, installation, and operation of telecommunications and security equipment including CCTV cameras, telephones, radios, building automation, public address equipment, and/or SCADA controllers
  • Technical training or industry certifications in networking, cybersecurity, critical infrastructure operations, and system administration is an asset
  • Technical certifications in Nokia (Alcatel/Lucent), Cisco, or Arista networking, VMware, and Windows/Linux system administration are an asset
  • A Project Management Professional (PMP) designation from the Project Management Institute is an asset
  • Supervisory training or certifications are an asset
  • Experience supervising, managing and mentoring other engineers, technicians and professional staff
  • Experience managing projects and consultants
  • Experience tendering and administering contracts
  • Experience estimating project costs and preparing budgets
  • Knowledge and experience working in Operational Technology (OT) including cybersecurity risk management in an OT environment
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP and MPLS networking, server virtualization platforms, Windows and Linux system administration, and network monitoring systems
  • Effective oral and written English communication skills, including the ability to write clear, concise, and easily comprehensible technical documentation
  • Able to explain technical concepts clearly to a non-technical and diverse audience
  • Ability to manage time and focus effectively and balance multiple priorities
  • Ability to interact with both non-technical and technical stakeholders and develop solutions that work with potentially competing demands
  • Awareness of developments in the industry and initiative to keep skills up to date
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to coalesce a team, provide performance feedback, and resolve conflicts
  • Proficient with Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Calendar, Drive)
