Ambulatory Services has an opportunity for a

COMMUINCATION DISORDERS ASSISTANT

PERMANENT PART-TIME

14 Bi-Weekly Hours \xe2\x80\x93 Day (Shifts may be subject to change)

OPSEU 583 Service Hourly Pay Rate: $31.00 - $35.69

Communication Disorders Assistant, who is under the supervision of the Audiologist will implement treatment plans. Reporting to the Operations Lead Clinic Manager.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Audiology:

  • Basic troubleshooting, cleaning, minor repair and maintenance of hearing aids
  • Follow up sessions with hearing aid users to enhance hearing aid management
  • Providing amplification systems to groups
  • Delivering components of group aural rehabilitation classes, designed/assigned by the Audiologists
Non-clinical:
  • Setting up/tidying up treatment area
  • Maintaining materials inventory and the materials/equipment sign out system
  • Tracking/submitting workload statistics
  • Performing checks of treatment materials and equipment
  • Requesting maintenance/repairs
  • Attending staff meetings
General responsibilities:
  • Contributing to the knowledge of others throughout the Centre regarding communication under the guidance of the Audiologists
  • Contributing to the development of departmental procedures and assisting in departmental administration
  • Educating other professionals, volunteers and members of the community about communication in collaboration with and under the guidance of the Audiologists
  • Ensuring that equipment used for treatment and rehabilitation is properly used and safely maintained
  • Providing statistical information as mandated by government and Centre administration
  • Participating in professional development activities to maintain current professional practices
Qualifications include but are not limited to:
  • Diploma from a recognized DCA college/university program or equivalent
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of computers and programs, such as Word and Excel
  • Experience in a geriatric and/or in a hearing care setting would be an asset
  • Experience in Geriatric Audiology and audiological rehabilitation desirable
  • Group education experience would be an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to team effectiveness and client/family centered care
  • Record of good attendance.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet professional clinical infection control protocols
