The role of the Commissioning Engineer will provide technical design support to define commissioning work packages and prepare procedures with input from discipline engineers. This role is also heavily completions-focused, ensuring systems and subsystems are accurately tracked, ITRs are progressed, punch items are addressed, and all documentation is properly updated within the completions management system to support a smooth handover from construction to commissioning.
Area of Focus:
Assist the Senior Commissioning Engineer with preparing commissioning work packages and procedures
Ensure safe execution of all commissioning activities using the work permit system
Monitor progress, record test results, witness final testing, and support completion of required documentation
Liaise with Operations to maintain clear communication on issues, resolutions, and system readiness
Participate in daily/weekly meetings with the Senior Engineer, Operations, and relevant project teams
Work closely with Maintenance during equipment test runs, troubleshooting, and start-up activities
Perform duties in accordance with established client procedures, policies, and technical standards
Additional Responsibilities
Assist with walkdowns, construction verification, and punch list management
Support updates to commissioning procedures, checklists, and readiness plans
Maintain the Completions Management System and ensure accurate ITR documentation
Support equipment testing, including calibration, loop checks, and functional testing
Help resolve technical issues during testing and start-up
Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors as needed
Maintain daily logs, progress updates, and system status reporting
Participate in system turnovers, PSSR reviews, and closeout activities
Qualifications
Degree in Engineering; Professional Engineer (P.Eng)
5+ years of commissioning or start-up experience in industrial or energy facilities
Strong understanding of instrumentation, electrical systems, PLC/SCADA, and control systems
Experience with completions processes (ITRs, punch lists, turnovers) and CMS platforms (e.g., Hexagon Smart Completions)
Proficiency in reading P&IDs, SLDs, datasheets, and technical drawings
Effective troubleshooting, communication, and teamwork abilities
Ability to work in field environments and support equipment testing
Commitment to safety and adherence to project standards
