The Opportunity

The Commercial Real Estate and Debt Financing Law Clerk plays a key role in supporting the structuring, documentation, and administration of corporate and property-level financings and will provide support to the debt finance team, with a focus on funding transactions and lending processes. This role requires hands-on experience in coordinating funding activities, managing legal documentation for lending transactions, ensuring compliance with lending regulations, and supporting both the funding and administration of loans. In this role, the Commercial Real Estate and Debt Financing Law Clerk will work closely with senior management, external counsel, and lenders on complex real estate and corporate debt transactions.


Key Accountabilities

New Financing Coordination

Manage borrower-side closing checklists and timelines for debt financing. Prepare, gather, and submit loan and supporting documents, ensuring all relevant property details are included. Facilitate the execution and delivery of closing documents Review legal documents and support comments back to counsel and lenders Oversee the funding process, including wire instructions, confirmation of funds flow, and post-closing documentation.

Ongoing Reporting & Compliance

Coordinate and submit covenant reports, quarterly financial reports, and other compliance documentation to lenders. Ensure timely and accurate reporting in accordance with loan agreements. Serve as the primary point of contact for internal stakeholders, lenders, and counsel regarding closing logistics and borrower-side requirements.

Repayment Administration

Manage the discharge process for loan repayments. Calculate paydowns and prepare supporting documentation for repayments.

Documentation & Organization

Organize all existing loan files and property details into a centralized document repository. Maintain accurate records and stay on top of loan maturity dates and deadlines.
Qualifications

Education:

Post-secondary education in a relevant field (finance, business administration, law clerk, or equivalent).

Experience:

Minimum of 5+ years of experience as a law clerk in commercial real estate, lending, or corporate transactions Familiarity with mortgage financing, security documentation, and real estate due diligence is highly valued. Experience working with REITs, developers, or large property portfolios is an asset. Demonstrated experience managing closing checklists, coordinating funding logistics, and supporting loan closings for real estate or corporate borrowers. Comfort working with numerical information, financial data, and loan terms.

Skills & Abilities:

Strong administrative and organizational skills, with excellent attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with document management systems is an asset. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion. Self-directed, adaptable, and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Professionalism, discretion, and a collaborative approach. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with multidisciplinary teams. Ability to organize and expedite workflow and proactively manage priorities. Bilingualism (English / Functional French) is an asset.

Effort



Work requires a high degree of mental effort to analyze documents, verify information, and perform computer-based tasks. Requires strong analytical and organizational skills to ensure compliance with loan terms and reporting requirements. Physical effort is limited to keyboarding and occasional walking to meetings.

Working Conditions



Work is generally performed in a hybrid office environment.
