Commercial Leasing Legal Assistant

Job Description


Legal Assistants directly support lawyers and occasionally oversee other legal staff such as filing or data clerks. In this role the firm we are working with is seeking a Legal Assistant experienced in the area of Commercial Leasing and other related transactions. You have strong technical/computer skills as well as excellent analytical, communication and organizational skills. A minimum of 3 years of legal experience in a similar law firm or other corporate legal department is required. This role is located in downtown Toronto.

Responsibilities:

- Word processing, filing, organizing files, entering dockets, billing, and scheduling.
- Assist in the drafting and preparation of legal documents and related correspondence
- Provide general administrative assistance to the commercial leasing group
- Administer computer database input and retrieval
- Execute legal research and investigative tasks, including obtaining information or documents from outside parties, as directed
- Log documents and assemble data as directed by lawyers and law clerks
- Inquire on and retrieve electronic documents from a variety of court and agency web sites
- Check copies against originals to confirm accuracy

- A minimum of 3 years\' experience in commercial leasing, or alternatively real estate or corporate law.
- Strong MS Word skills, experience with Workshare is an asset
- Ability to exercise good judgment, manage priorities, and work collaboratively
- Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
- Maintain matter management and record keeping
- Investigating the factual evidence of a transaction or case and preparing exhibits, charts and diagrams to display information
- Drafting legal court documents, such as pleadings, motions, affidavits and subpoenas; transactional documents, such as trusts, wills, contracts and real estate leases; and closing documents
- Real estate law experience desired
- Knowledge of Commercial Leasing
- Organizing and tracking files for important transactions or case documents, including pleadings and voluminous discovery documents; creating and maintaining a case-management database
