Your Opportunity:

This position may be filled by a qualified Medical Laboratory Technologist I (MLT I) or alternatively, a Combined Laboratory Xray Technologist I (CLXT I). The MLT I OR CLXT I is responsible to perform site specific manual and automated approved laboratory procedures, and related duties, following established standards and practices defined by the CMLTA (College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta), OR the ACCLXT (Alberta College of Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologists). If the successful candidate is a CLXT, they must be enrolled in or have completed the Transfusion Medicine courses offered through NAIT or equivalent. The community of Lac la Biche is located approximately 220 km northeast of Edmonton. The hospital’s service area - Lac la Biche County - has approximately 8,630 people. William J Cadzow Healthcare Centre Laboratory is a a busy department, offering an excellent opportunity to develop and grow your skills in the Chemistry, Hematology and Transfusion Medicine departments. Relocation assistance may available with a Return of Service Agreement. Please note this is a laboratory only position, Diagnostic Imaging is not performed in this role.

Description:

As a Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist I, you will perform procedures in both the laboratory and in diagnostic imaging, typically in rural sites. You will work as a member of the inter-professional team and be responsible for collecting and analyzing biological specimens, conducting X-ray examinations, ECGs and reporting results. Your responsibilities include preparing patients, venipuncture and micropuncture, routine equipment maintenance, maintaining supplies and performing quality control procedures as required.

Required Qualifications: Completion of diploma from an accredited program in Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology (CLXT). Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Combined Laboratory and X-ray Technologists (ACCLXT). Additional Required Qualifications: Core lab experience within the last 2 years is required along with strong phlebotomy skills. Working within a team environment, good interpersonal skills, effective time management and the ability to set priorities are necessary. Excellent communication skills both written and oral are required. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, be adaptable and flexible within an environment of change and interruptions. Must be able to represent Laboratory Medicine in a respectful, professional and courteous manner. Preferred Qualifications: This is a working level position utilizing technical skills and judgment performing a diverse range of diagnostic procedures within the Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine, and Specimen Procurement departments; within the scope of practice of a Medical Laboratory Technologist or a CLXT with TRAM 1 &2. Experience working with Ortho Chemistry analyzer, Sysmex XN550, ACL Elite Pro, Clinitek Advantus and with Meditech LIS.
