The Collections Agent's objective is to ensure the collection of outstanding accounts receivable for the YMCA of Greater Toronto. The role involves assessing overdue accounts related to Health and Fitness Centers, determining reasons for outstanding balances by reviewing and verifying documentation, and coordinating with YMCA Managers when required. Responsibilities include negotiating payment arrangements with account holders, investigating and resolving issues, maintaining accurate records, and preparing reports on receivables performance. The position also applies collection strategies, identifies obstacles to effective workflows, and addresses customer inquiries or complaints with professionalism.



In this role, you will:




Initiate contact with account holders via telephone to obtain or negotiate payment arrangements on past due accounts while maintaining quality customer service. Investigate, track, and attempt to resolve payment issues by facilitating problem analysis and problem solving with customers. Document conversations with customers and update their payments and/or payment arrangements in the computer system. Assist customers with questions and problems regarding account status, including reviewing payment schedules, discussing explanations for past due accounts, and clarifying payment policies. Create and review documentation for accounts receivable and business practices to ensure policy and procedural consistency, and direct new collection strategies. Prepare management reports on outstanding receivables' performance and status. Manage customer inquiries and complaints regarding accounts receivable, credit, and collections matters. Withdraw participants with delinquent accounts from YMCA services in accordance with AR procedures. Identify and remove obstacles that hinder individual, team, and business performance, advise of potential issues that could impact overall business, prioritize workflows, and ensure the most cost-effective campaigns. Establish rapport and maintain effective relationships with staff and members. Perform other duties as assigned.

You bring:




Post-secondary education in business administration or related field, or equivalent work experience. A minimum of 1-2 years collections experience within a customer service environment. Experience developing and implementing new collection policies, procedures, and best practices at an organizational level. Proficient with standard computer programs, including Microsoft Office - Excel and Word; experience using ACTIVENet preferred. Knowledge of YMCA programs an asset. Ability to work in an efficient manner independently and as part of a team. Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with media contacts, members, staff, and volunteers; excellent written communication skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, and weekends Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and building a sense of belonging.
