GENERAL FUNCTION

Responsible for reaching out to customers to collect payment for overdue bills, loans, or other payments. Acts as the liaison between creditors and customers and manages overdue accounts.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collect payments on past due bills.
  • Make outbound and accept inbound calls to collect payments from customers that are delinquent on their loans.
  • Representatives will provide customer solutions and negotiate payment arrangements with customers.
  • Create a list of people who have not made payments.
  • Organize list according to severity of delinquency.
  • Locate customers using credit bureau information, background checks, loan documents, and other paperwork or databases.
  • Inform clients of overdue accounts and amount currently owed.
  • Review terms of sale or loan documents.
  • Ensure all customer information is correct, including phone numbers and addresses.
  • Record new commitment to repay debt.
  • Send statements of delinquencies to credit bureau.
  • Initiate repossession proceedings or hand over account to law practice that specializes in debt collection.
  • Purge records if debt has been satisfied.
  • Report satisfied debts to credit bureaus.
  • Follow federal and state laws dealing with debt collection.
  • Print reports for management.
Qualifications

EDUCATION
  • High School diploma/GED
  • General windows-based computer knowledge
EXPERIENCE
  • Prior call center, collections or sales background strongly preferred
  • Experience in working as a collection agent within a financial institution
  • Sound knowledge of collection practices, regulations and procedures, and telephone mannerisms
  • Solid understanding of repayment schedules and bad debt management
  • Proficient in preventing losses, controlling delinquent balances, and collecting delinquent accounts

  • Bilingual (English and French required)
  • Excellent communication, sales, and negotiation skills
  • Exemplify quality customer service skills
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Must be an analytical and a critical thinker
  • Results-oriented and self-motivated
  • Ability to adapt to change
  • Hard working with excellent attendance
  • Ability to type 20 words per minute
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team oriented working environment.
