Job Summary
The Collaborative Food Network (CFN) is a community project supported by the Nova Scotia Government. It helps improve food security by bringing people and organizations together to create local, community-driven food programs that respect choice and dignity. The Collaborative Food Network Facilitator will help connect community members, local groups, and organizations to plan and run food-related projects--such as community gardens, cooking programs, and partnerships--that strengthen food access, belonging, and well-being in Colchester County.
As stated, this is a full-time position (35 hours per week) funded through grant support. Continued employment is dependent on ongoing funding each year.
Responsibilities
Build and maintain strong relationships with local organizations, schools, volunteers, and community members.
Coordinate community-based food projects and activities that reflect local needs and interests.
Lead and care for the community garden -- including planting, harvesting, organizing volunteers, and keeping the space welcoming and inclusive.
Recruit, train, and support volunteers and local leaders.
Help plan and evaluate programs with community partners and the Executive Director.
Keep track of budgets, help with grant writing, and manage project funds.
Promote the CFN through social media, newsletters, posters, and community outreach.
Ensure food safety and promote nutrition and cultural food knowledge.
Prepare regular progress and year-end reports.
Work with other CFNs across the province to share ideas and support each other
Qualifications and Experience
A self-motivated, organized, and compassionate person who cares about food security and community connections.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Experience working with volunteers or in community programs.
Understanding of barriers to food access faced by marginalized communities
Ability to motivate and engage others in community projects.
Computer skills (Microsoft Office or Google Workspace).
2-3 years of related experience in food programs, community work, or volunteer coordination is an asset.
Additional Details
Mileage is paid for any work-related travel.
Must complete a criminal record and vulnerable sector check.
Must have personal transportation.
Some evening or weekend work may be required.
