Position Description





Research Assistant Position

At Intelligent Medical Informatics Computing Systems (IMICS) Lab at the Hospital for Sick Children (fully affiliated with The University of Toronto), we conduct high-throughput research in design and development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions for Medicine. The Clinical Research Project Assistant will work in close collaboration with the PI, graduate students and other researchers on a research project focused on AI algorithms for optimizing patients appointment scheduling for the Department of Diagnostic & Interventional Radiology (DIR). The overarching goal of the project is to improve equitable access to DIR appointments for all patients\', regardless of patients\' demographics.
Here\'s What You\'ll Get To Do:
  • Design and development of Machine Learning and statistical models for identifying barriers to equitable access to DIR appointments.
  • Design and development of Machine Learning and statistical models for mitigating the barriers to equitable access to DIR appointments, through optimizing the appointment scheduling and developing a recommendation system.
  • Data collection, curation, and management.
  • Perform quality control procedures to ensure accuracy of algorithms and completeness of collected data.
  • Work closely with the deployment team to integrate the newly developed scheduling algorithms into the current system.
  • Preparing scientific manuscripts and reports.

Here\'s What You\'ll Need:
  • Minimum of a bachelor\'s degree in Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or Equivalent
  • Strong knowledge in machine (deep) learning and statistical analysis
  • Strong knowledge in developing machine learning for Operations Research
  • Advanced knowledge on optimization methods
  • Strong scientific programming skills with Python (PyTorch)
  • Prior research-based publications in machine learning for Operations Research
  • Excellent technical writing for scientific publications
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work well with a team and to use initiative in achieving goals
  • Experience in research coordination, data collection and management
  • A commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity and inclusion objectives

Type of Employment:
Full-time, Six Months contract - July 2-December 31, 2024 (renewable based on funding)
