DescriptionThe Department of Clinical Neurosciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Clinical Research Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.This position reports to the Program Manager.A Clinical Research Coordinator requires judgement and decision making following outlined procedures and guidelines. A research coordinator works simultaneously on multiple research projects. The research involves human subjects. The research coordinator must protect the rights of human subjects according to the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH), Declaration of Helsinki guidelines, the Tri-council Policy Statement, Health Information Act (HIA) and through Conjoint Health Research Ethics Board (CHREB) requirements.The position is indoors and involves work at a computer station as well as phone communication. There may be required to work out of multiple sites (Foothills Campus, South Health Campus).Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Recruit eligible subjects for research projects by checking charts and scheduling sources
  • Coordinate and schedule research visits according to study procedures
  • Abstract data from an existing databases of MS patients
  • Collaborate with the study investigators
  • Perform physician delegated functions
  • Develop informed consent forms, source documents worksheets and case report forms
  • Contribute to protocol development
  • Liaise with all research team members and sponsor/other collaborators
  • Prepare and submit study documents to the ethic boards
  • Maintain research study binders with regulatory documents and patient data
  • Keep electronic records of all study material including protocols, informed consent forms, questionnaires, renewals, modifications, etc.
  • Obtain consent from subjects wishing to participate in health research projects and clinical trials according to standard approved protocol
  • Educate patients and their families on research procedures
  • Performing outcomes measures and procedures required to measure functional ability in patients with MS
  • Collect and maintain data logs
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree. (Background in neurology preferred)
  • 1-3 years of related experience
  • Previous experience as a research coordinator (Background in clinical trials preferred)
  • Knowledge of University policies including submission of projects to ethics boards
  • Ability work simultaneously on multiple projects
  • Fluent in English
  • Computer literacy MS Windows, Word, Excel, MS Outlook and MS Access
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Must be able to work independently and with others
  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented
  • Effective communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
