Job Description


The UPEI Health & Wellness Centre has launched a Provincial ADHD Program for Adults on PEI. The program is funded by the Department of Social Development and Housing and UPEI. The program is seeking a Clinical Psychologist as part of the team of professionals who will support individuals who are living with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The psychologist will provide direct service and work closely with other members of the Provincial ADHD Program. The psychologist will report directly to the Director of the UPEI Health & Wellness Centre.RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct clinical service to individuals 16+ who are referred to the Provincial ADHD Program
  • Participate in team meetings, coaching and mentoring sessions and individual/group counselling sessions
The Psychologist will be expected to directly engage in or supervise the following:
  • Providing a wide range of assessment, diagnosis, treatment and consultation services for individuals who are referred to the Provincial ADHD Program for Adults. The individuals may have multiple co-morbidities, including past criminal behaviors
  • Providing assessment and diagnostic services, with appropriate recommendations, for psychological challenges, including specific learning disabilities
  • Providing case consultation and related supports to the professionals with the Provincial ADHD Program to support their clinical work and enhance client care
  • May liaise with other program/population areas (e.g. Holland College, Provincial Corrections, 2SLGBTQIA etc.). This could include assessing the clinical needs of these communities and augment traditional clinical service with evidence informed clinical outreach
  • Performing diagnostic interviews (structured and unstructured) with clients to collect relevant information which will aid in the diagnosis of mental health problems and illnesses
  • Choosing, administering, scoring, and interpretation of psychological tests to assess cognitive abilities, achievement levels, attention abilities, emotional functioning, personality functioning, and mental health disorders within scope of practice
  • Creating comprehensive psychological reports which integrate all relevant material and provide useful recommendations to the client and other systems
  • Using substantive knowledge of numerous areas including development, mental illness, cognitive functioning, behavior, medical co-morbidity, and substance abuse; analyzing and interpreting the information to formulate clinical impressions and to develop and, as appropriate implement, treatment plans
  • Maintaining and protecting confidential records and case reporting consistent with policy, procedures, and ethical standards, as part of the case management process
  • Planning and implementing evidence-based initiatives designed to promote mental health and prevent disorder
  • Performing other duties as required to facilitate the functioning of the Provincial ADHD Program for Adults, which includes but is not limited to contributing to operational policy development and day to day functioning of the clinic
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Applicants must have a Doctoral Degree in Clinical or Counselling Psychology, with training and supervised practice with youth (16+) and adult populations
  • Applicants must be eligible for registration with the PEI Psychology Registration Board; registration will be required as a condition of employment. Where currently registered, must be a member in good standing.
  • Prior experience working with adults with ADHD would be considered an asset
In addition, applicants must have:
  • A foundation of knowledge and / or experience that will allow for the highly competent provision and supervision of mental health treatment and psychological assessment services
  • Proficiency with diagnostic and psychoeducational assessments with adults.
  • Ability to liaise effectively with relevant stakeholders (e.g., UPEI/Holland College students, Provincial Correctional Facility, etc.)
  • Demonstrated strengths in clinical work with cultural and other group and personal diversities
  • Demonstrated substantive knowledge of, and practice in, conceptualization, assessment, and evidence based therapeutic approaches to mental health
  • Demonstrated proficiency in core clinical competencies in mental health treatment, which include: client-clinician relationship formation; being professionally autonomous and accountable; psychological testing; clinical assessment and formulation skills; therapeutic interventions with individuals and groups; clinical case management; consultation; application of research to practice; and, application of ethical principles and standards of conduct
  • Demonstrated effective professional skill including time management, interpersonal skills, oral and written skills, effective team building skills, collaborative, and consultative practice skills
  • Working knowledge of Mental Health Act, FOIPP, Consent to Treatment Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Youth Criminal Justice Act, Child Protection Act, Psychologists Act, and other legislative frameworks as needed
  • Working knowledge of the Canadian Code of Ethics for Psychologists and PEI Psychologists Registration Board Code of Conduct
  • Demonstrated strengths in situating assessment, treatment, and consultation within a broad framework of wellness, promotion and illness prevention
