Job Summary
The Clinical Psychologist III in the Mental Health and Addictions Program is responsible for prevention, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of diverse psychological disorders across the lifespan; children, adolescents, adults and seniors. This position functions autonomously and uses independent judgement in the applications of specialized psychological knowledge and principles in clinical practice. Administers and interprets specialized and standardized psychological tests to clients to assess cognitive functioning, learning disabilities and personality disorders as well as develop, monitor, implement and modifies psychotherapeutic treatment plans for individuals, couples, families and groups. Provide clinical consultation to psychiatrists, physicians, interdisciplinary teams and community organizations and implements documentation and case load management.

The Clinical Psychologist III will also participate in ongoing assessment planning, implementation and evaluative process of the Mental Health and Addictions Program along with other members of the team and conduct educations sessions with community and professional groups and in-service sessions with Mental Health Peers, participating in community based and/or regional committees as a professional representative of Mental Health and Addiction Services and other related duties as required.

This position reports to the Division Manager for Clarenville Health and Community Services - Mental Health and Addictions, and maintains accountability to the Psychology Professional Practice Consultant for integrity and professional practice issues.

Job Demands

Occasionally, there is lifting or physical strength required, less than 10 lbs.
Regularly sits, occasionally works in awkward/cramped positions, stands to facilitate or teach groups.
Fine finger/precision work when on the computer and visual concentration is required when in sessions with patients (i.e. reviewing patient charts/notes, tests and for documenting work, and when reading or researching information).
Auditory concentration is required in sessions with patients to listen attentively, to be alert and to obtain and interpret information correctly. A higher than normal level of attentiveness is required when assessing high risk patients.

Job Qualifications
Graduation with an approved/recognized Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology is required.
Registration or provisional registration with Newfoundland and Labrador Psychology Board is required.
Graduate course work and supervised experience in psychological assessment and therapy with individuals, families, and groups with a specific focus on complex mental health and/or addictions issues is required.
Current CPR/First Aid would be an asset.
Exhibited strong communication, program development and evaluation skills.
Possessed proven analytical, critical reasoning, collaboration, problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to direct, supervise and mentor students.
Demonstrated ability to effectively translate and communicate knowledge in the specialized area of psychology practice to others.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional environment and provide clinical consultation.
Ability to work autonomously, prioritizing caseloads and client needs.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a constructive working rapport with clients.
Demonstrated strong awareness of ethical principles and standards of professional conduct.
Conditions of employment include the use of a private vehicle.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
