The Clinical Pharmacy Manager is responsible for overseeing the administrative, technical and clinical operations of the pharmacy department. This leadership position is responsible for establishing the drug procurement, order entry practices and clinical pharmacy practices of the pharmacy department. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager is an integral part of the interdisciplinary team responsible for providing patient care and attends multidisciplinary team meetings regularly.
Major and/or Key Elements:
Provides direction and leadership for the pharmacy department
Monitors the drug distribution processes, and drug use control mechanisms including drug procurement, formulary system, and inventory control
Reviews and improves systems, standards, and policies to support the strategic plan and goals of the health center.
With the interdisciplinary team reviews the medication therapy for patients screening for therapeutic duplication, drug-drug interactions, drug-disease interactions, allergies and overall appropriateness of therapy.
Ensures that the pharmacy department and services comply with all relevant legislation and accreditation standards from a quality assurance and risk management perspective
Has an active role and participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings and committees, particularly the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee and Medical Advisory Committee.
Ensures Effective oversight and management of the pharmacy department staff and budget
o Hires, appoints, supervises, and organizes training and disciplines all pharmacy staff
o Approves, reviews and edits procedure and policy manuals maintaining document control
o Ensures all pharmacy staff complete mandatory training annually, and are aware of contingency plans, infection control practices, and departmental health and safety procedures.
Other Managerial projects as assigned.
Position Qualifications & Prerequisites:
Registered as a Part A Pharmacist in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
Maintains professional liability insurance as required by the Ontario College of Pharmacists
Minimum 3 years of experience as a pharmacist, hospital experience or residency program preferred
Previous management or supervisory experience preferred
Excellent leadership, problem-solving, decision making, organizational and communication skills
