Clinical Nurse Educator
to join our
Program & Service Delivery Team
at CUPS.
CUPS Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) plays a crucial role by designing educational programs in collaboration with the leadership team. This role will also implement and deliver those programs to CUPS staff to support clinical competencies, organizational standards/practices/guidelines and evidence-based practices in the areas of trauma-informed and culturally competent care. You will monitor the clinical competencies of regulated nursing staff within the programs at CUPS, and will identify opportunities for training and development for the unattached clinic, primary care clinic and prenatal and family health clinic. In this role, you may also participate in the provision of direct and/or indirect patient care for the purposes of teaching.
The CNE role functions as a change agent and resource for professional development and clinical competence, and collaborates with the leadership team around quality improvement strategies. Ideally, you will be trained in quality improvement facilitation and participate in quality councils within team-based care.
You will take an active role in the facilitation of preceptors in CUPS health programs for Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Occupational Therapist (OT) and Medical Office Assistant (MOA) designations, including the identification of preceptors and the supervision of training plans.

Key Responsibilities
Participate in the CUPS mission to support the learning and development of new professionals through education and training activities and support the education and training of all learners stationed within CUPS.
Collaborate day-to-day with a multidisciplinary team to provide just-in-time education and training for complex medical and social support in a primary care setting.
Demonstrate a commitment to best practice and evidence-based medical care through participation in quality improvement work.
Create and update training programs to enhance the clinical skills and knowledge of nursing staff.
Identify gaps in staff competence to ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
Provide hands-on training and supervision to nursing staff and student learners in clinical settings.
Facilitate the placements of preceptor students and RN, LPN, OT and MOA student groups, providing supervision and support training plans when required.
Participate in the development and implementation of programming for the Community Engaged Learner Program.
Engage in continuous professional development to stay updated with the latest in nursing education and clinical practices.
Identify opportunities to update CUPS policies and procedures to best align with clinical best practices in nursing and clinical practices.
Implement clinical practice changes to meet legislative (e.g., CRNA, CLPNA, Persons in Protective Care Act), organizational, and educational requirements.
Implement clinical documentation practice changes to support excellent data collection through the electronic Collaborative Health Record (CHR).
Promote and utilize best practice resources based on current clinical guidelines and expert consultation.
Maintain documentation of attendance, competency achievements and program evaluations.
Monitor nursing practice and Learning Report System (LRS) trends and identify necessary changes to improve quality of care from a systems-level approach.
Facilitate the maintenance of accurate and complete health records that meet the demands of interdisciplinary care, the Alberta Health Information Act, and all other relevant provincial and federal legislation.
Serve as a member of the CUPS Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
Support training and development goals of the organization, as required.
What You Bring:
Understanding and alignment with philosophies around trauma-informed practice, Adverse Childhood Experiences, the socio-environmental determinants of health, and issues related to poverty, mental health, and substance use.
Demonstrated understanding and commitment to an integrated & team-based model.
Knowledge of harm reduction practices and the social determinants of health.
Experience in community health & public health sciences is an asset.
Knowledge of community resources connected to the provision of health promotion and illness prevention-related services is an asset.
Excellent written, communication, organizational and time management skills with the ability to take the initiative and work with limited supervision but within the guidelines of the position.
Specialized training is an asset (e.g. wound care, phlebotomy, administering depot injections, knowledge of addictions medicine, familiarity with Community Treatment Orders, etc.).
Experience working with vulnerable populations with significant mental health and substance use issues.
Ability to work efficiently, both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and commitment to Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action an asset.
Employment Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing
Current practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
Minimum five years' experience as a Registered Nurse
Minimum two years of leadership experience.
Solid knowledge foundation of illness and comorbidities amongst homeless populations and the ability to formulate accurate nursing assessments.
Strong health assessment, crisis management and counselling skills.
Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
