Position Summary
The Clinical Informatics Specialist plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between healthcare, technology, and data management. The Clinical Informatics Specialist is responsible for the planning, design, development, training, implementation, evaluation and support of clinical information systems initiatives. The position brings the clinical knowledge and leadership required to lead clinicians, departments and programs through business process and workflow redesign. The Clinical Informatics Specialist is the liaison between the clinical stakeholders and Information Systems. This role involves collaborating with clinicians, IT professionals, and healthcare administrators within Quinte Health, the southeast partner hospitals, and regional team to implement and optimize the health information system (Lumeo), clinical data management platforms, and decision-support tools.
Required

  • Education:
o Completion of a post-secondary program in the health sciences field (required).
o Preference for formal education in clinical informatics.
  • Experience:
o 2+ years of experience in clinical informatics or healthcare IT roles.
o Hands-on experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, clinical data systems, or other healthcare technologies.
o Recent teaching or coaching experience.
o Experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Skills:
o Strong understanding of healthcare workflows and clinical processes.
o Proficiency in Cerner EHR systems and Microsoft Office.
o Ability to analyze data and generate reports to drive decision-making.
o Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.
o Experience with data analytics, project management software, and database management is preferred.
Duties
1. Clinical Data Analysis and Optimization:
o Analyze clinical workflows and data to identify opportunities for improvement in patient care and operational efficiency.
o Utilize data from Lumeo and other clinical systems to monitor performance metrics and assist in evidence-based decision-making.
o Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and compliance with healthcare standards and regulations.
o Promotes quality assurance in meaningful data collection through the EMR
2. System Implementation & Integration:
o Lead the implementation and integration of Lumeo within clinical settings.
o Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including IT, clinical staff, and management, to ensure successful technology adoption.
o Acts as the primary resource for the related interprofessional patient care teams, as well as committees/working groups, to process and follow up with requests for system changes, upgrades or enhancements
o Provide technical expertise in system design, optimization, and customization to fit clinical needs.
3. Clinical Training and Support:
o Develop and deliver training programs for clinical staff on the use of Lumeo and related technologies required to integrate with clinical workflows.
o Provide ongoing support to clinicians and leadership to ensure effective use of Lumeo.
o Provide one-on-one shadowing support to understand how clinicians are interacting with the system and where required providing coaching to optimize use of Lumeo
o Complete workflow analysis to identify deviations from recommended workflows to support performance management discussions
o Creation and maintenance of resources to support onboarding, just-in-time learning, and remedial training
o Serve as a liaison between IT departments and clinical staff to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
4. Change Management:
o Incorporates adult learning principles, organizational development, behavioral and physical sciences, communication strategies, interpersonal skills, and change management sciences in the selection, designing, delivering and evaluating of educational programs using multiple methodologies and facilitate knowledge transfer to the practice setting.
5. Clinical Workflow Analysis:
o Evaluate existing clinical workflows and recommend opportunities for system optimization to enhance efficiency, reduce errors, and improve patient outcomes.
o Provide support in the redesign of clinical processes to optimize the use of Lumeo and related technology.
6. Research and Continuous Improvement:
o Stay current with emerging trends and innovations in healthcare informatics and technology.
o Contribute to the development of best practices in clinical informatics.
o Monitor the effectiveness of implemented solutions and suggest improvements based on feedback and performance data.
7. Collaboration and Communication:
o Work closely with physicians, nurses, administrators, and IT staff to understand clinical needs and advocate for appropriate design solutions.
o Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical staff to facilitate informed decision-making.
o Provides support related to system knowledge in the development of applicable organizational policies and procedures
