We are looking for a
Clinical Educator, Critical Care, Emergency, Medicine
to work with our
Interprofessional Practice
Department to help us continue in our mission to serve our community with Kindness, Accountability, Respect, and Teamwork.
Position Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will perform the duties expected of a Clinical Educator, Critical Care, Emergency, Medicine within Interprofessional Practice Department
The Clinical Nurse Educator leads and supports quality care outcomes through educational program planning, collaboration with members of the interprofessional team, to enhance knowledge, skills, and professionalism of clinical staff. The primary role of the Clinical Nurse Educator is to facilitate a learning environment where evidence-based knowledge is translated via education to optimize the patient's outcomes and experiences.
The Clinical Nurse Educator practices in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession. This role may be subject to changes as priorities in the organization shift.
Lead and facilitate clinical questioning, decision making, and critical thinking among staff.
Role model positive attitudes and good work values.
Encourage and facilitate participation in continuous learning to enhance clinical practice.
Promote an environment that encourages professional development while incorporating a novice to an expert approach.
Advocate and support the maintenance of confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
Liaise with external professional organizations, regulatory bodies, and community agencies regarding clinical practices as required
Provide educational and skills practice opportunities for clinical staff
Act as an education consultant for clinical staff
Conduct educational needs assessments and tailor learning accordingly
Participate and contribute to quality-of-care reviews by gathering clinical information, identifying opportunities for improvement, and supporting implementation of recommendations to enhance patient safety and care quality
Incorporate adult learning principles in the planning, design, delivery, and evaluation of educational programs using multiple methodologies
Facilitate the application of learned knowledge to clinical practice
Mentor staff and support involvement in unit presentations, research projects, clinical decision making etc.
Provide leadership in implementing and sustaining clinical practice improvements at the unit, program, and organizational level, in collaboration with members of the interprofessional team
Consult with managers/directors regarding practice issues and education needs of clinical staff
Participate as a contributing member on a variety of interprofessional committees at the organizational and regional partnership level.
Collaborate with Care4partner sites to support and implement changes to the electronic health record
Support and monitor Nurses participating in critical education programs. Collaborate with educational institutions and unit manager as required.
Collaborate with leadership to ensure maintenance and monitoring of program alignment with applicable best practices guidelines and standards
Assist in preparing for and meeting Accreditation Canada Standards
Facilitate education related to new procedures and best practice updates for clinical areas
Implement and maintain changes in nursing documentation in the patient's electronic record
Contribute to clinical program growth strategies and quality improvement projects
Provide support during critical incidents and contribute to post incident debriefing and learning
Education:
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required
Master's degree in Nursing from a recognized university required
Post degree education in Critical Care and/or Emergency Nursing an asset
Preparation in Adult Education/Teaching and Training Adults preferred
Current BLS certification required
Current ACLS certification required
TNCC certification required
NRP certification required
ENPC certification required
CTAS certification required and commitment to obtain CTAS instructor status within 6 months
Successful completion of a recognized leadership certificate or equivalent an asset
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years recent clinical practice experience in critical care (i.e. ICU or Emergency) settings required
Minimum 3-5 years' experience as clinical educator in an acute care setting preferred
Minimum of 2 years Team Leader/Resource nurse/ Charge nurse experience required
Current or recent experience related to mentorship or education of novice staff in Critical Care settings required
Experience in leadership or management is preferred
Competencies:
Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Other:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to manage change and to foster an environment that promotes professional development
Computer literacy with common applications and experience with Meditech Expanse electronic medical record system
Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects at one time
Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
Familiarity with pertinent legislation related to health care providers and institutions
Demonstrated ability to energize, coach, and support
Available to work all shifts
Hiring Salary Range:
$55.70 - $63.45 The duration of this temporary position is approximately 9 months with the potential to extend to 12 months.
