Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.


The Manager of Professional Practice is currently seeking a temporary full Time Professional practice Trainer/Therapeutic Interventions Trainer. The Professional Practice Trainer plays a key role in supporting professional standards and best practices within the organization. The incumbent is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering training initiatives that enhance the skills and competencies of inter-professional teams in alignment with organizational policies, strategic objectives, and industry best practices. The role requires the application of adult learning principles to ensure effective knowledge transfer, supporting an inclusive, diverse, and psychologically safe learning environment.


The Professional Practice Trainer collaborates with internal partners to assess training needs, develop educational content, and facilitate learning opportunities to enhance the professional growth and effectiveness of healthcare professionals and staff. The role also includes maintaining training records, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and standards, and contributing to continuous quality improvement initiatives. This role is critical in fostering a culture of learning, continuous professional development, and excellence in care delivery across the organization.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:



Act as a subject matter expert on therapeutic strategies and techniques to support delivery of trauma informed, person-centered care based on recovery philosophy Facilitate and lead Therapeutic Intervention and Planned Room Extraction training, for current and new Waypoint employees, students as required Deliver other identified security/safety training as required by organization As required, coordinate and schedule a group of internal certified instructors to ensure adequate backup training resources are in place for consistent, timely training delivery Stay abreast of professional trends, practices, legislation and organizational requirements to ensure all training reflects current best practices and organizational needs Apply established learning and facilitation theory to develop and deliver a diverse range of learning initiatives, (electronic and classroom) organization-wide Liaise with external training consultants to evaluate programs, trainer competence, and ensure identified training standards are met. In collaboration with learning compliance coordinator: maintain a database of all relevant information to track organizational training compliance and trainer certification; develop annual training calendar; compile accurate, timely reports as required. Participate on hospital teams and committees.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:



A regulated healthcare professional licensed to practice in Ontario A diploma or baccalaureate degree in a health-related discipline A recognized certificate, diploma or professional designation in teaching/training adults or adult education and learning Preference for recent and related experience both in a clinical role and as a facilitator of adult learning Two (2) to five (5) years' experience working in a therapeutic mental health care environment as a healthcare professional required Two (2) years' experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating education/training programs required Proven intermediate/advanced level skills in Excel and databases Demonstrated knowledge and experience with therapeutic strategies/techniques and least restraint best practices Results oriented work ethic to work independently and undertake tasks needed to accomplish work objectives and deliver quality, consistent and timely results Demonstrated organizational, planning, interpersonal and presentation skills Proven written and verbal communication skills Proven ability to adapt readily to change
