The pillar currently is currently implementing a full organizational build as a discipline. This will ensure the discipline is set up for success, ultimately setting Sun Life up for long term success and climate risk mitigation. This position will report to the AVP of climate risk and sit on the climate and environment risk team. The role is essential to become compliant with OSFI B15 regulatory requirements, and also helps the enterprise better understand physical and transitional climate risk. Bring actuarial subject matter expertise and leadership by integrating climate-related risks into our overall risk management framework by:
  • Lead and incorporate actuarial best practices for risk quantification & analytics into our climate risk management activities.
  • Leading the development of tools and metrics for measuring, analyzing, and monitoring climate-related risks.
  • Coordinating, developing and delivering risk reporting for senior management on climate-related risk.
  • Leading the adoption of the framework across the organization into the businesses by implementing extensive outreach, engagement, and communication strategies in coordination with AVP of Climate Risk.
  • Coordinating and collaborating with experts across Sun Life to accomplish the technical integration in the risk management framework.
What you\'ll be doing
  • Bring actuarial subject matter expertise and leadership by integrating climate-related risks into our overall risk management framework by:
  • Lead and incorporate actuarial best practices for risk quantification & analytics into our climate risk management activities.
  • Leading the development of tools and metrics for measuring, analyzing, and monitoring climate-related risks.
  • Coordinating, developing and delivering risk reporting for senior management on climate-related risk.
  • Leading the adoption of the framework across the organization into the businesses by implementing extensive outreach, engagement, and communication strategies in coordination with AVP of Climate Risk.
  • Coordinating and collaborating with experts across Sun Life to accomplish the technical integration in the risk management framework. Bring actuarial subject matter expertise, while applying a climate lens, to the creation, development, and/or implementation of an enterprise-wide climate change risk tool in line with the expectations of the Task Force on Climate Related Disclosures (TCFD) and OSFI B15. To achieve the following outcomes, this position must lead the integration of a climate risk tool into Sun Life\xe2\x80\x99s Risk Management Framework. This will require the position to lead, communicate, and/or coordinate with Sun Life\xe2\x80\x99s Business Groups and Corporate Functional Areas and to monitor integration of the tool to ensure compliance with the risk management framework and associated guidelines.
  • Represent Sun Life as a leader and actuarial subject matter expert, by leading and identifying appropriate research organizations and projects for partnership with Sun Life to help us meet our climate and sustainability goals specifically relating to life and health, transition risks, and climate- and nature-based disclosures. Continue to manage the relationships and development of collaborations moving forward.
  • Develop and present relevant research findings and applications to BG and Corporate Actuarial leaders in climate risk management and lead the integration into our various actuarial functions such as product development & pricing, valuation, ALM, risk management, etc.
  • Be an active and leading member of the external actuarial community (through volunteering and other activities) as it relates to climate risk management and bring those perspectives back to the organization.
What you\'ll need to succeed
  • FSA and/or FCIA certifications in good standing.
  • 10+ years in financial services, preferably in a wide range of functions/business units.
  • Prior experience with climate risks is an asset.
  • Understands how to accomplish objectives with the organization\xe2\x80\x99s culture and builds a variety of networks to support performance.
  • Ability to build effective relationships at senior levels across the organization to engage and influence others.
  • Effectively communicates with senior level audiences.
Unique attributes
  • Specialized expertise in climate change risk strategies; for financial services institutions a plus.
  • Expert Actuarial experience with an understanding of climate risk.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in working independently and performing highly complex assignments, developing, coordinating, and executing strategies.
