This position coordinates and delivers service and administrative functions in the provision of supports and services to eligible residents under the City\xe2\x80\x99s human services programs, including housing and homelessness services and social assistance.

Job Title Client Services Worker Wage $32.73 - $36.00 (2023) Reports To Program Supervisor Department Human Services Location Human Services Division - Haliburton Hours Normal working hours are 35 hours per week
Other General office environment; travel may be required in accordance with job requirements
  • Interview applicants/recipients, ensure completion of all applicable documentation to determine service and program eligibility
  • Coordinate and provide integrated case management; monitor progress through a collaborative process across the housing, social assistance and employment service systems, including recipients, community agencies and stakeholders, to support successful client life stabilization outcomes
  • Address individual client needs in accordance with applicable provincial legislation, local policies and procedures, and management direction
  • Engage community partners by means of:
    • Facilitating referrals and meetings with agencies
    • Educating agencies regarding housing and social services programs
    • Participation in community working groups, committees and activities on behalf of the department
  • Within designated housing communities specifically, collaborate with households and tenant groups including:
    • Foster effective working relationships with tenant groups through facilitation of special events
    • Promote engagement of children and youth from tenant households through recreation and cultural community activities
    • Promote and optimize client involvement in a clean tenant community environment
    • Advocate and promote positive relations between tenants and surrounding households
    • Resolve conflict between tenants and tenant groups
    • Direct community safety initiatives, such as community watch programs, in conjunction with other agencies, including police services
    • Act as a resource in mediating Landlord and Tenant Board matters
  • Perform other related duties as assigned including fan-out as part of the Emergency Plan
Skills/ Education Required
  • Post-secondary diploma in Social Services, Social Work, sociology, psychology or a directly related field
  • Minimum 3 years of related progressive experience, preferably in a municipal environment
  • Detailed knowledge of related municipal and provincial social service and housing programs and legislation, including an understanding of social determinants of health and barriers faced by people living in poverty and low income settings
  • Proven client service competencies including strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships both within and outside the organization, active listening and questioning skills including common structured questioning techniques; ability to reason and troubleshoot, stress and conflict management skills, ability to provide detailed and accurate verbal and written technical guidance and support to clients
  • Demonstrated professional and ethical responsibility to protect privacy, use confidential information appropriately, treat sensitive situations with appropriate degree of tact and discretion
  • Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills including the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and work methodically and prioritize workload to meet multiple demands and deadlines effectively with minimal supervision
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative consistently with commitment to quality improvement, sharing process improvement initiatives with management
  • Required to satisfy provincial security protocols
  • Working knowledge of Social Services delivery technology (SAMS) an asset
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet, and any other related software
  • Upon a conditional offer of employment, a Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search, will be required
