The Innu Round Table Secretariat is dedicated to supporting the well-being of the Sheshatshiu and Mushuau Innu. Since April 1, 2016, the Labrador Innu communities of Natuashish and Sheshatshiu have been delivering the Innu Income Support Program based on provincial rates and policies. The program is funded by Indigenous Services Canada and emphasizes integrated case management and proactive strategies that reduce dependency on income support.
The Client Services Officer is a trusted position within this program, responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of services, maintaining confidentiality, and supporting community members with respect and integrity.
About the Position
The Client Services Officer is responsible for providing direct support to clients applying for and receiving income support. This includes assessing eligibility, maintaining client files, processing benefits, and helping clients access additional services and active measures that promote independence. The position reports to the Client Services Manager and is based in Sheshatshiu.
Duties and Responsibilities
Collect and assess all information relating to applications for benefits and guide clients through each step of the process.
Ensure required documentation is complete and register new cases in the case management system.
Verify client income, assets, and eligibility in line with program policy and procedures.
Notify applicants of eligibility status, determine benefits entitlement, and establish payment schedules in consultation with the Client Services Manager.
Monitor client files, ensuring information is current and reflects any changes in circumstances.
Identify and manage overpayments, setting up repayment agreements where necessary.
Support clients in developing active measures and connecting with complementary programs and services.
Provide information about eligibility for federal, provincial, and community programs (e.g., MCP, EI, SIN, housing supports).
Work collaboratively with the Housing Hub, Integrated Management staff, and other service providers to deliver coordinated, wraparound support.
Assist with policy matters and other duties as requested by senior staff.
Qualifications
Post-secondary education in social services or related field (asset).
Experience working in an Innu community or Indigenous social services context.
Knowledge of Innu culture, history, and development goals.
Familiarity with Income Support program regulations and practices.
Strong communication skills in English; fluency in Innu-Aimun is a strong asset.
Proficiency with computers and electronic file/data management systems.
Willingness to travel as required.
Valid driver's license.
Must provide a Criminal Record Check upon request.
