To provide personal support services to our residents that may need help with their daily living activities. Your role reports into our Client Care - Supervisor who will oversee your performance to ensure it complies with all health care and other regulatory requirements. Prospective clients and inspectors can always attend the building without notice to view and inspect the premises. Attention to detail is critical as the quality of the property is tied directly to the brand image of Sharbot Lake Retirement Ltd.
There is a 3 month probationary period with a wage review after 3 months
Core Responsibilities can include the following but are not limited to:
Required to provide and oversee medication administration, charting and dispensing blister packed medications or other forms of therapy - puffers, insulin etc.
Provide support to our clients that may require some assistance with their daily living activities which could include - bathing, serving meals, dressing, personal hygiene, and skin or wound care.
Ensuring client journals are current and up to date, ensuring anything of note, is added to the clients' chart.
Assisting with building cleaning and maintenance is required (Housekeeping Duties - laundry)
Spending time with clients to ensure their days are active and engaging, may be required.
Health codes are to be complied with at all times along with any other regulatory requirements.
Daily exercise and physio programs are run and maintained.
Workplace safety must be maintained at all times.
Attending the weekly Health Care meeting and the monthly team meeting are mandatory*. Ensuring the dining area in the great hall is clean and ready for the next meal service.
Sunday is resident's day, the PSW on Sunday spends time doing things with/for the residents. Styling their hair, doing their nails, etc.
Following procedure and attention to detail are keys in being a successful member of the team.
Qualifications:
Experience in a retirement community is an asset.
Completion of an academic accreditation in a PSW program is required.
Must be flexible with respect to work scheduling as working weekends and mornings, afternoon, or nights may be required. Preference will be given to candidates that are available from time to time to cover over nights when the owner is out of town.
Must be able to work in a team-based environment and be comfortable with sharing ideas and concepts to build process and policy either via your own ideas or collaborating with others to build and expand their ideas into a workable product.
Must be able to accept feedback and be able to provide feedback where required.
Superior command of the English language - written and spoken are required.
Must be a self-starter, an initiator, and a thinker.
Must be well organized, clean and neat at all times.
Must always be courteous and professional with all clients and always ready to answer any of their questions if able and to get the help of those who can if not able to answer a question or concern from a client.
Willing to participate in continuing education and skill development either self initiated or when required.
A copy of a police background check (including vulnerable sector screen) is required - CPIC.
