Together, our diversity defines the uniqueness of Nova Scotia.About Our OpportunityThe Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is seeking individuals to be part of our Visitor Experience team (VET). They should exemplify service excellence and demonstrate strong communication skills while welcoming and assisting visitors from various diverse backgrounds and providing accurate, timely information to them in a dynamic work environment.As the VET (casual), you are responsible for welcoming and orienting visitors to the museum, handling cash sales of admissions and museum passes, and attending questions from guests & incoming calls.This position reports to the Curator of Visitor Experience at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.Primary Accountabilities

  • Assist with the coordination of facility rentals, promotional activities and special events and other duties as required.
  • Maintain and operate Point of Sale (POS) systems for admissions, pass sales, and retail purchases.
  • Ensure special offers, discounts and cash handling procedures are completed in adherence with policies and procedures.
  • Welcome and orient visitors to the museum, answering their inquiries in a warm and professional manner.
Qualifications and ExperienceAs the ideal candidate, you possess at least grade 11 plus 3 years of related experience in a retail or customer service environment. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.You possess a knowledge and strong interest in the cultural and natural history of Nova Scotia and its museums. You are a self-motivated individual who works well independently and participates fully in a team environment. You value the concepts of equity, diversity, and inclusion in all areas of work. You must enjoy working with people in a busy, fast-paced tourist destination.You are proficient using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), have excellent organizational skills, and strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal). Past experience with cash handling, using computer-based POS systems is required.Assets for this role:
  • Training or certification in tourism, hospitality, retail and/or museum studies.
  • Certification in first aid and WHMIS.
  • Ability to speak French or additional languages.
