The Clay Studio operates under the umbrella of the Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador and was founded in 1993 by a small group of potters who recognized a growing need for a community clay studio and ceramic arts education center. For almost 30 years the Clay Studio has been instrumental in building a strong inclusive community of ceramic artists and contributing to the economic growth in Newfoundland and Labrador. It is as a welcoming place to build skills, learn from each other, connect, share and collaborate.It is the one of the province's largest ceramics education center offering introductory, advanced and professional workshops hosted by local, national and international ceramic artists. It provides established ceramic artists with access to studio space, and emerging artists as well as hobbyists with studio access during a set schedule. The Clay Studio also provides professional and emerging ceramic artists with teaching and exhibition opportunities.Summary of Function:The Clay Education Coordinator will co lead The Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labradors Clay Studio & Ceramic Education Centre. They will be responsible for a number of important functions including, but not limited to: acting as the main point of contact for the public as well as clay studio members and users; Working closely with the current Clay Studios Co-Lead, the Clay Studio part-time staff, and the Clay Studio Committee, while reporting directly to the CCNL Executive Director and Board; data collection and reporting; assisting with special events; coordination, promotion, and scheduling of various classes, courses, and workshops; outreach through social media and newsletter; and other administrative tasks.Duties:

  • Welcome and orient guest who may tour the clay studio, as well as answer phone calls, emails, and other inquires related to the clay studio in a timely manner.
  • Work together with the Clay Studio Co-Lead to ensure the Clay Studio is operating according to the needs of the clay studio users, public, and funding requirements.
  • Preform opening and closing duties including turning on and off lights and equipment as needed or directed, reconciling sales and daily deposits, and keeping entrance and studio clean.
  • Submit weekly financial records to the Administration Department in a timely manner.
  • Work with Co-lead, committee, and instructors to create seasonal programming and see programing through with coordination, scheduling, and promotion.
  • Post regularly to social media with up-to-date programming and outreach.
  • Regularly update and submit up-to-date information to our bi-weekly newsletter.
  • Assist with special events and projects through the year under the CCNL umbrella.
You are an ideal candidate if you have:
  • Experience with coordinating, programming, and schedule of programs
  • Experience with funding and grant applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Enjoy working with the public
  • Enjoy a collaborative environment, but can work both alone and with a team
  • Strong interest in craft
  • Strong digital literacy skills and experience with operating various payment methods, printers, photocopiers, and various payment programs
  • An understanding of, and commitment to, The Craft Council of NL mission and values.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. All international applicants' must have a valid employment vias authorizing their ability to work in Canada on an ongoing full-time basis.
