Duties

----------


As a Civilian Ammunition Technician (CAT), you will have significant responsibility for the safety and operational status of ammunition and related equipment. You will be responsible for the maintenance, certification, and disposal of ammunition, explosives, and related items. This challenging role requires comprehensive knowledge and expertise in all facets of ammunition and explosives, including quality control and inventory management. Being a Civilian Ammunition Technician is a chance to contribute to the larger mission and have a real impact on the readiness and operations of the Canadian Armed Forces.



Canadian Forces Ammunition Depot (CFAD) Rocky Point is one of two such facilities across Canada, as a coastal depot its top priority is to provide specialized maintenance and resupply services to the Royal Canadian Navy. At CFAD Rocky Point, our technicians have the opportunity to take part in the development and onboarding of apprentices and new employees, making this a rewarding environment.

Intent of the process

The intent is immediately fill eight (8) positions on a two (2) years term contract in Metchosin, BC.



A pool of partially or essentially qualified candidates may be established through this process and used to staff identical or similar positions with various employment tenures (temporary and permanent), language profiles, operational requirements, and conditions of employment at the Department of National Defence.

? EDUCATION



ED1: The minimum standard is:

a secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives (see Note).


Note:

The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:

o A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or

o An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.



Candidates who already meet both of the following criteria must be accepted as meeting the secondary school diploma requirement:

o Candidates who have achieved a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; and

o Candidates who have been appointed or deployed for an indeterminate period to a position in the GT classification.



The opportunity to be assessed by at least one of the two employer-approved alternatives must be offered to candidates who have not previously met the secondary school diploma requirement.



Candidates who were appointed or deployed on an indeterminate basis using an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience meet the secondary school requirement for the GT classification only and must be reassessed for entry to other classifications on the basis of this alternative.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENT




Willing and able to work overtime.

Must be able to lift up to 25kg without assistance in accordance with safe lifting practices.

Willing and able to obtain a valid provincial class "DZ" driver's licence.



Willing and able to obtain and maintain a Canadian passport.



Willing and able to work in adverse weather conditions.

Possession of a valid provincial driver's licence.

Must attend applicable trade training courses as selected and scheduled by the employer.
