The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) independently investigates all serious incidents which arise from the actions of police in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. SiRT's mandate is to investigate all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters that are determined to be in the public interest to be investigated. SiRT is independent of the police and government. The Director of SiRT is a civilian and is responsible for the general direction of all investigations. This ensures a more transparent and independent way to investigate serious incidents involving police. SiRT recently opened an office in New Brunswick.

About Our Opportunity

As a Legal Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting the effective functioning of the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT). Reporting to the Manager of Business Administration, you will be responsible for managing files, organizing case materials, and providing administrative and technical support. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and a sound understanding of legal procedures and documentation. You will ensure the integrity and accuracy of case records and contribute to the smooth operation of the office, directly supporting SiRT's mandate to independently investigate serious incidents involving police.
As this position is located in Fredericton, New Brunswick, the successful candidate will be required to reside in the Fredericton area.
Primary Accountabilities

Your key responsibilities include working in a team environment and providing support to the Manager of Business Administration, the Assistant Director and Investigators in New Brunswick. In addition, you will be responsible for:
Legal Case Management of Criminal Investigations:
Prepare and vet disclosure
Assist SiRT Director, Assistant Director and Investigators with preparation of Court Documents
Liaise with Crown Attorney's to ensure disclosure is provided in a timely fashion
Establish tracking systems to ensure compliance with all applicable legislation, regulations and policies.
File Management:
Act as a point of contact to ensure parties have appropriate file updates
Manage the receipt, transfer, and storage of electronic documents
Responsible for the management and control of SiRT files in accordance with the STAR/STOR classification system
Work with files that are in the SiRT records management system (X-Fire)
Safeguard highly confidential documents and materials
Administrative Support
Prepare correspondence and documents of a legal and non-legal nature
Process incoming and outgoing mail, arrange courier services
Respond to inquires from the public and police agencies
Maintain and order office stationery and supplies
Maintain and monitor records for SiRT vehicle fleet
Coordinate electronic calendars, arrange meetings, and travel accommodations
Qualifications and Experience
---------------------------------
You have a certificate/diploma from a Legal Assistant or Paralegal program, or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
You are a collaborative team player with proficient skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Adobe, including Adobe Pro. Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy are essential to your work. You exercise sound judgment when responding to in-person, virtual, and telephone inquiries, and handle interactions with tact and diplomacy.
You demonstrate the ability to work independently in a fast-paced and often challenging environment, while consistently displaying strong organizational, communication (both written and verbal), and interpersonal skills. Self-motivated and dependable, you thrive both independently and as part of a team. Your exceptional organizational abilities and capacity to manage multiple priorities contribute directly to your success in this role.
We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.
Working Conditions
Most of your time is spent in a comfortable office setting. You may occasionally be required to move/lift light objects such as office supplies, equipment, and files. You will have daily contact with the public, various police agencies as well as other local agencies and institutions. Your normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.

Responsabilites principales

Vos principales responsabilites : travailler en equipe et fournir du soutien au gestionnaire en administration des affaires, au directeur adjoint et aux gestionnaires d'equipe au Nouveau-Brunswick. Vous aurez egalement les responsabilites suivantes:
Gestion des cas d'enquetes criminelles
Preparer et confirmer la divulgation
Aider le directeur, le directeur adjoint et les enqueteurs a preparer les documents juridiques
Collaborer avec les procureurs de la Couronne pour faire en sorte que la divulgation soit faite en temps opportun
Etablir des systemes de suivi pour assurer la conformite aux lois, reglements et politiques applicables
Gestion des dossiers
Etre le point de contact pour faire en sorte que toutes les parties aient acces aux mises a jour appropriees des dossiers
Gerer la reception, le transfert et l'entreposage des documents electroniques
Assurer la gestion et le controle des dossiers de la SiRT conformement au systeme de classification STAR/STOR
Travailler sur les dossiers qui se trouvent dans le systeme de gestion des dossiers de la SiRT (X-Fire)
Proteger le materiel et les documents tres confidentiels
Soutien administratif
Preparer la correspondance et les documents de nature juridique et non juridique
Gerer le courrier de depart et d'arrivee et organiser les services de messagerie;
Repondre aux demandes du public et des services de police
Gerer et commander les fournitures de bureau et de papeterie
Gerer et surveiller les dossiers lies a la flotte de vehicules de la SiRT

Qualifications et experience

Conditions de travail
Vous travaillerez principalement dans un bureau confortable. Il se peut que vous deviez a l'occasion soulever ou deplacer des objets legers comme des fournitures de bureau, de l'equipement et des dossiers. Vous interagirez de facon quotidienne avec le public, differents services de police et d'autres agences et institutions locales. Votre semaine normale de travail est de 35 heures, 7 heures par jour.

TE 13 - TE 19
Salary Range:
$1,566.66 - $2,273.69 Bi-Weekly
