About the Opportunity Our Nelson office is currently looking for a capable and enthusiastic civil engineering co-op student to join our team for a 4- or 8-month co-op work term starting in May 2023! We understand the need for you to have meaningful work terms during your co-op education, so we strive to create opportunities that are challenging, multifaceted, and rewarding. Our goal is for you to come away with an enhanced skill set that will serve you well in your future career as a professional engineer. We are expecting that this position will involve a variety of project work, working with seasoned veterans and recent graduates alike. You will be involved in project work related to municipal infrastructure design, water resources and land development and have the opportunity to work with our Local Government, Indigenous communities, Land Development and Water practices. Typical duties may include:

  • Spreadsheet development and utilities analysis
  • Hydraulic modeling (water, sewer and stormwater)
  • Cost estimating
  • Site investigations and/or construction inspections
  • Engagement with contractors, suppliers, and other consultants
  • Work with Design Technicians to complete designs with AutoCAD Civil 3D - drawing development and design functions
  • Technical writing and communications
  • Project support and administration

About You Our preferred candidate is currently enrolled in a civil or environmental engineering program, is available for either a 4- or 8-month work term, is in either their 3rd or 4th year of study and has some previously related experience. Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following skills, strengths, and interests:
  • You have been exposed to municipal servicing design principles and are interested in working on a diverse range of projects
  • You wish to round out your skills and knowledge with exposure to some of the following: water, stormwater and sewer infrastructure design, hydraulic modeling, road design, preparing grading plans and asset management
  • You are a motivated self-starter that can work independently and collaborate effectively with others
  • You are attracted to the consulting industry with the ability to work with a variety of clients, contractors, and other consultants
  • You are enthusiastic and open to learning about a variety of practice areas
  • You are known for producing high-quality work
  • You desire to work in a fast-paced environment with a team of professionals who are deeply committed to exceeding client expectations
