Who are we looking for?
We're looking for a
Senior Civil Engineer - Civil Transit Design Lead
to join our growing Canadian Operations. To be successful, you must have a minimum of 15+ years of experience in civil engineering, design and design coordination on large scale transit infrastructure projects including civil works pertaining to Rail Corridors, Roadways, and Multi-Modal Corridors (LRT/BRT), and Site Development/Linear Infrastructure. The Senior Civil Engineer will cooperate and work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, regional team leads across Ontario, Canada, North America and GHD's global network.

Responsibilities
Needs Assessment:
Uncover emerging issues or needs, identifying potential causes, barriers, and key stakeholders, as well as related issues.
Improvement/Innovation:
Identify shortcomings in existing business practices, then suggest and implement improvements while developing and delivering projects or a work stream within the organization's change management program. Involves working with guidance from senior colleagues.
Culture of Innovation:
Drive a culture of innovation by creating multistakeholder solutions that boost creativity, innovation, and collaboration across business units, such as idea generation platforms, jam sessions, and hackathons.
Engineering Solutions Design:
Leading and developing civil engineering design for track grading, roadway, and multi-modal corridors including median LRT/BRT as well as site development and associated linear infrastructure
Coordination:
Coordinating the preparation of civil deliverables, drawings and details from conception to final design in a 3D modelling environment such as Civil 3D, according to established standards and procedures for a wide variety of projects. Coordination of all aspects of the civil design including being responsible for the design following the budget and schedule.
Professional Supervision:
Being able to lead a small team of engineers and/or designers to drive design phases and implement design standards on civil infrastructure projects of high complexity. Mentoring and supervising junior and developing EIT's and Technicians, fostering a team approach
Engineering Standards Specification:
Reviewing and overseeing the preparation of models and drawings and working together with other Engineers and Designers to develop detailed drawings, quantities and various supporting documents including technical memos, specifications, contract documents etc. completing assignments with minimal guidance
Collaboration:
Working closely with Business Group Leaders, Project Managers, and Project Directors with a focus on civil design for transit infrastructure.
Collaborating with other engineering disciplines and design staff in the production of high-quality project deliverables
Communicating with other discipline leads, designers, and project team members on a regular basis to ensure effective and timely flow of project information to meet scheduled deadlines. Ensuring that project design solutions are delivered to the highest standards and meet program and budgetary constraints
Maintaining contact with sub-consultants, municipalities, utility companies and clients
Engineering Standards Specification:
Analyze information, draft engineering standards and specifications, and evaluate the effectiveness of those standards within own engineering discipline to ensure work of the required quality is delivered and to inform engineering work in the organization and/or of its suppliers, contractors, and consultants.
Knowledge Management:
Develop policies and processes, create best practices, set up case studies, and deliver internal knowledge-sharing sessions to capture and share knowledge among colleagues on project/program outcomes and innovative practices in a particular area of expertise and to support the practice.
Document and Reports Review:
Overseeing the preparation of reports, and contract documents for review agencies, clients, and the public
Working in various procurement environments such as Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build projects
Standards:
Adhering to GHD BIM and Quality standards and procedures and implementing compliance on project level
Participating, when required, in advancement of GHD Standard Civil Details including the promotion of changes and updates to tools and methods, assisting with training development and lessons learned exercises.
15+ years' experience in design and engineering of transportation infrastructure projects
Managerial Experience:
Experience of supervising and directing people and other resources to achieve specific end results within limited timeframes (13 months to 3 years)
Proven record of successful delivery of Transit Infrastructure projects
Detailed understanding of local Agency (or equivalent) Codes and standards
Experience working in an integrated 3D design environment
Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Microstation
Competency/expertise in BIM Collaboration tools e.g. (ProjectWise, BIM 360, Autodesk Construction Cloud)
(Preferred but not required).
