BEL Contracting, part of NorLand Limited, is searching for an Intern for 8 months (from the beginning of May to the end of December, with the possibility of going longer). Gain hands-on experience in the dynamic and fast-paced world of civil construction. The preferred candidate for this position would be a co-op student or recent graduate from a Civil Engineering background.
BEL Contracting has excelled in civil contracting across Western Canada, focusing on underground utility and road construction. Our expertise spans transportation and infrastructure projects for provincial, municipal, and private clients, ensuring quality through safety, efficiency, and budget adherence. We offer tailored construction solutions, including planning, grading, excavating, culvert and utility installations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Promoting a work environment where the safety and health of all employees, subcontractors, and individuals is paramount.
Collaborating and assisting Estimators with estimating, including maintaining accurate bid lists, and participation in the estimate review and bid wrap-up process.
Working with senior staff to develop, assess, and improve project management and operations systems.
Coordinating, tracking, and reporting on various project functions including health & safety, environment, quality, subcontractor progress, and scheduling.
Helping with quantity take-offs, quote solicitation, comparative table analysis, WBS development, and estimate entry NorLand's bid software.
Taking project progress photos, doing quantity measurements, managing hydrostatic and pneumatic utility testing, and coordinating sample taking and lab testing.
Working with foremen and superintendents to ensure accurate completion of daily crew reports for payroll and equipment time processing.
Analyzing job costing and helping to produce accurate budget forecasting.
Working with the procurement team to ensure timely and accurate delivery of materials and services.
Qualifications & Skills:
3rd or 4th year Civil Engineering undergraduate, preferably with relevant summer or co-op experience.
Strong Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Projects skills. Hard Dollar experience is an asset.
Ability to work in both an office and field environment, with frequent local travel to work sites, some without convenient access to public transit.
Ability to work to deadlines with frequent interruptions.
Able to work outside of normal work hours occasionally to meet the needs of the business. o Confident communicator, with a good work ethic and a willingness to learn.
Valid Driver's License
Compensation:
Expected hourly rate: The wage range for this position is $24 - $30 per hour (based on candidate's experience).
The role is an 8-month term, full-time position with the possibility to extend if both parties mutually agree.
