The Thompson-Nicola Regional District is located in south-central British Columbia, with dozens rural and urban communities spread across 44,300 square kilometres. The TNRD provides more than 120 local government services to approximately 144,000 people in 10 Electoral Areas, 11 member municipalities, and 25 First Nations.


The TNRD is headquartered in the City of Kamloops, the largest community within the regional district. The Thompson-Nicola region has a vast range of climates that experience true four-season weather, with plenty of year-round sunshine, little rain, and warm summers. Residents generally have short commutes, easy access to recreation and the outdoors, and a high quality of life. Our Library System




The Thompson-Nicola Regional Library (TNRL), the biggest Regional District department provides services through 13 locations and a Mobile Library. Located in the Central Interior of British Columbia, the TNRL is committed to providing excellent service to patrons for lifetime personal growth, learning and enjoyment. The Library team provides programming, materials and resources to people of all ages and abilities.


The TNRL is seeking Circulation & Reference Assistants who creates a welcoming environment and a superb library experience for all. These positions work in an organization that values flexibility, customer service and making a difference in our communities as we strive to build partnerships within and outside the library system.


The Circulation & Reference Assistant helps patrons of all ages find answers to their reference questions, including questions about electronic devices. The Assistant registers new patrons, checks materials in/out, performs cash transactions as needed as well as plans and delivers programs. There is a physical component to this position.


Job Requirements
Customer service experience and a passion for helping others; A belief in the importance of literacy; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; Excellent organizational skills; Ability to contribute positively and work effectively within a team environment; Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision; Experience working with children; Demonstrated ability using Microsoft Office programs, social media, and mobile devices; Ability to lift 20-25 lbs, stand for extended periods, and bend/reach library shelves

Schedules are subject to change based on operational requirements. Candidates should ensure availability for the schedule posted:


Week 1 of pay period: Tuesday 11:00 - 17:00


Week 2 of pay period: Saturday 11:00 - 17:00


The position is subject to the provisions of the Collective Agreement with the BC General Employees' Union, local 705. This position is a Pay Grid Level 9 which starts at

$27.60/hour

.

Non-benefitted staff receive 18.2%-21.2% in lieu

of annual vacation, statutory holidays, sick leave, and benefits as per Article 25.8.


The successful applicant must maintain a valid Class 5 driver's license. The successful applicant must undergo a vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check.
