About the Position
Dedicated and dynamic, the Assistant Manager is someone who is passionate about thrift store operations, customer service, and contributing to a meaningful cause. You will work closely with the Store Manager to oversee daily store operations, manage staff and volunteers, and help drive the success of the thrift store.
You'll be responsible for performing daily store opening and closing operations while providing an amazing experience for our customers, donors and volunteers. The Assistant Manager leads by example, from donation to purchase to every customer through your genuine ability to make our customer feel comfortable and cared for.

Duties and Responsibilities
Team & Volunteer Leadership:
Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching, and support for staff and volunteers.
Participate in training and mentoring of the team, fostering a positive environment.
Assume responsibility for all store operations when the Store Manager is absent.
Customer Experience & Sales:
Lead by example, providing exceptional customer service to every customer, donor, and volunteer, ensuring an amazing experience that encourages loyalty.
Oversee daily store opening and closing operations.
Assist with developing and implementing strategies for profitability.
Handle customer inquiries, concerns, and returns with professionalism and empathy.
Store Operations & Merchandising:
Oversee and facilitate the process of inventory management.
Maintain visual merchandising standards.
Assist in creating and posting for online and social media presence.
Maintain high standards for the overall cleanliness, organization, and safety of the store.
Utilize POS and modern inventory management systems effectively.
Adhere to all Hospice Halifax policies, procedures, and Health and Safety regulations.
Qualifications and Competencies:

Experience & Leadership
:
1-2 years of retail experience; thrift, consignment, or supervisory experience is a significant asset.
Proven ability to provide leadership in a fast-paced environment and inspire a diverse team of staff and volunteers.
Ability to work autonomously and make quick, informed decisions.
Skills & Attributes
:
Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.
Proficiency in POS systems, inventory management software, and Google Worksuite (or similar).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Flexible, change-embracing, and able to adapt effectively.
A firm commitment to the mission and values of Hospice Halifax.
Additional Requirements
:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent education/training.
Successful Criminal Record Check (required upon hire).
Flexible schedule with willingness to work evenings and weekends.
Physical ability to walk and/or stand throughout a normal workday and lift and carry up to 40-50 pounds regularly (with or without reasonable accommodation).

Compensation and Hours of Work
$18-20 hourly, dependent on Experience
Permanent, Full time, 35-40 hours per week, paid breaks
