The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track position in the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Imaging. Applications from all areas of AI and Machine Learning (ML) with a focus on applications of AI in image processing and analysis. The successful candidate will initiate, lead, and collaborate in research activities, compete for external research funding, contribute to the Department's undergraduate and graduate programs, including teaching and assisting with administration.
The candidate selected will be appointed as a faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.

The successful candidate will be nominated for a Canada CIFAR Artificial Intelligence (CCAI) Chair by the , which includes research funding for at least five years. This position is part of a University of Alberta cluster hire in the intersection of Machine Learning and other areas, including areas of research strength that include Health, Energy, and Indigenous Initiatives in health and humanities, among others. The successful candidate will also become an Amii Fellow, joining a collegial institute of world-class Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning researchers, have access to Amii internal funding resources, administrative support, and a highly collaborative environment.
Salary will be based on the incumbent's qualifications, experience, and achievements and in accordance with the Faculty Agreement.
Skills & Experience
The successful candidate has a

  • PhD, in either engineering, computing science or a related field.
  • Proven record of high-quality research achievements with success in obtaining previous national level grant funding, holding of patents and publishing peer-reviewed publications.
  • Show a successful record of mentorship and teaching at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience applying AI and ML to innovation in imaging research.
  • Strong potential for productive interactions with researchers in the Faculty and in related disciplines at the University of Alberta

  • A cover letter that should outline their interests in a position with the Department of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging at the University of Alberta.
