OMNI Television is looking for a Writer (Chinese Language - Cantonese/Mandarin) to be part of a diverse team and support editorial decisions for newscasts for the Chinese community in the Greater Toronto Area. Our ideal candidate will engage the audience by delivering compelling, informative and locally relevant stories on multiple media platforms.

What You\'ll Be Doing...

• Help research, write, coordinate and produce content for digital and the linear channel for both Cantonese and Mandarin Focus shows in Ontario, ensuring journalistic integrity and standards
• Help with translations, subtitling of stories and back-filling for hosts and reporters including OMNI\'s Assignment Desk during sick days, vacations, evenings, weekends and so on
• Provide support to Producer by helping take live shows to air, prepare rundown of news stories and oversee and execute production of video and graphic elements to enhance stories
• Work with Digital team to help increase OMNI\'s digital footprint and find ways to effectively increase audience reach and social media hits in the Chinese communities nationally and internationally including OMNI\'s WeChat account
• Liaise with other producers, reporters and regional editorial teams on a regular basis, as well as on next-day and longer-term editorial projects
• Attend daily content and programming meetings and contribute to creative brainstorms on new content, including digital and branded content development
• Build a strong network within the Chinese community in the GTA
• Be on top of all major news stories and cover breaking news stories
• Review daily rundown changes and work with production crew in editorial discussions, writing scripts, packaging, graphics elements, out-of-show teasing, show timing and field coordination, as required

What You Bring...

• Fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin (oral, written and read)
• News television producing and/or reporting experience in a major market
• In-depth knowledge of local news and current affairs
• Strong network connections within the Chinese community
• Exude highest professional journalism standards
• Strong ability to multi-task
• An excellent journalist, writer and leader willing to express and support his/her editorial ideas at editorial meetings
• Ability to meet tight deadlines with ease and work well under pressure
• Must have excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Fluent in the digital news space with an ability to identify trending stories on social media
• Experience with live news, control room, field production and Quantel technology an asset
