Job Overview:
We are seeking a caring and enthusiastic Childminder to support children during on-site group programming sessions. In this role, you will create a safe and engaging environment where children can explore play-based activities and enjoy meaningful interactions that foster their growth and development. While parents participate in programming, you will ensure their children are well cared for and actively engaged.
Job Conditions:
The Childminder position is based at one of our designated programming site locations and involves working select evening shifts throughout the year. Scheduled hours may fall between Monday and Friday evenings, typically between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Specific shifts will vary based on program scheduling and staff availability, with additional hours potentially offered as needed.
Key responsibilities:
Welcome and interact warmly with participants and their children at the Terra Centre.
Join and engage with families during dinner time to foster a sense of community.
Provide quality care and facilitate age-appropriate activities for children aged 0 to 6 years.
Model positive and developmentally appropriate adult-child interactions.
Support and enhance learning opportunities through play and guided activities.
Communicate with parents and caregivers, offering an overview of their child's experiences during childminding.
Perform light cleaning and maintain the childcare space to ensure a safe and organized environment.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Early Childhood Educator (ECE) education is an asset but not required.
Experience working with children aged 0-6 years.
Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds
Must be at least 18 years old
Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to work with families from diverse cultural backgrounds and develop positive, effective, professional rapport and relationships with youth
Knowledge of child/youth development and child-parent attachment
Understanding and knowledge of the issues pregnant and parenting young people face
Knowledge of child development and play based activities
Other requirements:
Ability to work flexible hours
Manual dexterity required to operate various appliances and equipment.
Ability to lift between 25- 50 lbs
Current Standard First Aid and CPR
Police Information Check (including vulnerable Sector Check) and Child and Youth Intervention Check, completed within the last 90 days prior to start date. Processing times may take several weeks to complete these checks. Results will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
