SCOPE OF JOB:
This is a full time permanent managerial position. In managing a team of authorized child protection workers and child and family support workers, the incumbent has responsibility for the planning and provision of child welfare services for Elgin County, including subsequent and/or joint intake investigations, the apprehension of children, supervision of short term out of home placements as well as the provision and coordination of in home support and education to families. The incumbent participates in the overall management of the agency through planning, administrative and community outreach duties. This position is outside the Bargaining Unit.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters of Social Work degree from a recognized University (or those who have equivalent education and experience);
Minimum of three years of related direct social work practice;
Demonstrated superior oral and written communication skills, sound problem solving skills and judgment, strong time management and a community based philosophy for delivering child welfare services;
Demonstrates skills in critical decision making that are inclusive and collaborative;
Ability to provide strong team building, leadership and coaching skills to a team of Child Protection Workers and other child welfare professionals;
Adapts to change and responds to changing circumstances and priorities in a professional manner;
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Agency, Sector and Ministry priorities and directives;
Familiarity with the Child, Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA), current workplace human resources practices, and familiarity with current workplace software would be assets;
Willingness to work flexible working hours as required;
Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills in a digitized environment;
Demonstrates self-awareness, recognizes their strengths and areas of developments and understands who their beliefs impact their work;
Understands the importance of accountability in their work and seeks out direction or consultation as needed;
Welcomes the ideas, values, experiences and expertise of others and is committed and contributes positively to the management team and organization;
Demonstrates appropriate strategies to resolve conflict and de-escalate crisis situations in a professional and respectful manner, develops strategies and provides follow-up;
Clear and explicit commitment to the practice of Signs of Safety and its implementation within the organization,
Understands the agency's service delivery model and is able to implement in their work;
Understands their privilege, recognizes their bias and integrates the agency's mission, commitments and declarations into their work;
Sensitivity to and awareness of issues facing First Nations, Inuit and Metis (FNIM) people and the Pathway to Reconciliation;
Commits to improve, develop and implement Truth and Reconciliation, anti-oppression and anti-racism practices into our organization;
Demonstrates cultural competency and sensitivity while working cross culturally;
Recognition of and sensitivity to Anti-Oppression and broad social injustices including, poverty, sexual orientation, race and ethnicity and other forms of discrimination including disabilities and their systemic impact on service users and community as a whole. Ability to promote equality and reduce impact of discrimination within Child Welfare and in the broader community, and
A valid G drivers licence and use of a personal vehicle.
