Job Description

Heritage Family Services is looking for experienced Casual Child and Youth Care Workers to join our team on a relief basis. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work across various programs within the organization, gaining valuable experience with room for professional growth.

We are seeking individuals who are known for being genuine, service-oriented, responsible, organized, and outgoing. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive, trauma-informed relationships with children and youth in care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain trusting relationships while respecting each individual's unique background.
• Provide a safe and stable environment for youth, ensuring security protocols are followed to reduce anxiety.
• Assist with daily routines and engage in youth-centered programs.
• Help prepare meals and participate in household tasks.
• Encourage and support youth's self-esteem and personal development.
• Advocate for youth and ensure access to necessary support services, including the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate.
• Offer a nurturing environment that meets the emotional needs of youth in care.
• Teach and support life skills development, including social skills, emotional regulation, and cognitive processing.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Minimum of a Grade 12 diploma with at least three (3) years of experience working with children/youth.
• Post-secondary education (or current enrollment) in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field is preferred.
• Understanding and respect for Indigenous traditions and culturally appropriate care.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse communities, respecting different backgrounds, identities, genders, and sexualities.
• Strong cross-cultural communication skills, particularly with marginalized individuals and groups.
• Must provide a Criminal Record Check, Child Intervention Check, and a Driver's Abstract as part of pre-employment screening.
