The Supply Child Care Worker will be responsible for guiding and instructing preschool aged children, in a variety of culturally based and educational/life skills subjects. This will include music, art, social science, literature, physical activity, personal hygiene, and healthy eating.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Deliver age-appropriate programming.
Supervise, guide, and assist children in daily activities.
Provide a safe and happy environment.
Record necessary information pertinent to each child.
Ensure activities adhere to the safety and well being of each child.
Maintain equipment and assist in housekeeping duties.
Observe children to detect signs of ill health or emotional disturbance, and to evaluate progress.
Interact with children to encourage their involvement in activities.
Provide a warm, safe, and caring environment that is kept orderly, clean, and appealing.
Co-plan and implement daily activities (indoor/outdoor) as they relate to the overall goals of the program.
Provide diapering care if required.
Provide overall supervision of toileting and bathroom time.
Oversee all infant feedings and mealtime/snack time activities, and provide related record keeping (if required).
Ensure confidentiality of privileged information.
Maintain adherence to Wahta Mohawks policies and procedures, including safety requirements.
Include materials and experiences in the classroom that are culturally appropriate and represent the Kanien'kehaka culture.
Be sensitive to individual children's differences and needs, and be willing to adjust the program to meet those individual needs.
Demonstrate behaviour that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
Assist with other duties as requested to include sharing the responsibility of snack and lunch preparation.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Preference of College Certificate in human services field including: Early Childhood Education (ECE). Education Assistant (EA), etc. or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a similar or related position with a proven demonstration of skills.
Related training in the area of children with special needs and/or Under 3Training preferred.
Skills Required:
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Must be reliable and dependable, and committed to maintaining confidentiality.
Must have a proficient level of communication skills, verbal and written, and be comfortable dealing with the public.
Ability to effectively interact and relate to children in a developmentally appropriate manner.
High level of energy and patience.
Ability and willingness to perform required physical tasks.
Must posses a current and valid Driver's License and dependable vehicle.
Terms of Employment:
This is a short-term contract position ending August 29, 2025; hours are on an on-call basis.
