Position Overview
We are currently seeking a
Child Care Supervisor
who is passionate about early years education and experienced in the
Montessori approach
to join our leadership team. This is a key role within the centre, responsible for day-to-day operations, maintaining licensing standards, supporting educators, and fostering a high-quality learning environment. The ideal candidate will bring a
minimum of 5 years of experience in licensed child care
,
2+ years of Montessori experience
, and exceptional leadership and administrative capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Oversight
Ensure compliance with all legislative requirements including the
Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA)
,
Ministry of Education licensing regulations
,
municipal by-laws
,
fire and health codes
, and
Occupational Health and Safety Act
Prepare for and participate in annual licensing inspections and quality assurance reviews
Oversee ratios, staff schedules, safety procedures, and classroom coverage to maintain operational efficiency
Manage student enrollment, wait lists, and family transitions in coordination with the Director
Montessori Program Support
Ensure the Montessori philosophy is integrated effectively across all age groups
Guide the creation and maintenance of Montessori-prepared environments in alignment with child development stages
Work collaboratively with Montessori-trained educators to implement developmentally appropriate curriculum
Support material rotation, classroom setup, and observation-based planning
Staff Supervision & Leadership
Lead a team of Montessori and RECE educators through coaching, daily check-ins, and role modeling professional conduct
Conduct formal performance reviews, feedback sessions, and support plans
Coordinate recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing professional development
Plan and facilitate regular staff meetings to ensure clear communication and continuous quality improvement
Family and Community Engagement
Build trusting and respectful relationships with parents through daily communication, conferences, newsletters, and centre events
Address parent concerns in a timely and professional manner, and document appropriately
Represent the centre in professional networks, community partnerships, and stakeholder meetings
Administrative Duties
Maintain accurate and confidential records, including attendance, staff qualifications, incidents, health checks, and developmental documentation
Manage licensing documents, Ministry correspondence, health and safety audits, and child supervision plans
Assist with budgeting, ordering supplies, and maintaining inventory of Montessori and classroom materials
Work collaboratively with the Director/Owners to implement centre-wide initiatives and strategic planning
Required Qualifications
RECE (Registered Early Childhood Educator)
in good standing with the
College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)
Montessori Certification
(AMI, MACTE, or equivalent) - required or strongly preferred
Minimum 5 years of experience
in a licensed child care centre
Minimum 2 years of direct experience in a Montessori program
(as a guide, teacher, coordinator, or supervisor)
Strong understanding of
Montessori pedagogy
,
child development
, and
early years learning frameworks
Proven leadership and supervisory experience managing diverse teams
Current
Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
Clear
Vulnerable Sector Police Check
Excellent communication, organizational, and conflict-resolution skills
Knowledge of administrative systems, licensing software (CCMIS, OneHSN, etc.), and scheduling platforms is an asset
Experience working with diverse communities and inclusive practices
