Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and collaborative Child & Youth Counsellor (CYC) to join our Day Treatment Program, supporting children and youth with complex behavioral, emotional, and social needs. The successful candidate will work in a therapeutic classroom setting alongside educators, clinicians, and families to promote positive mental health, academic engagement, and life skills development.



Key Responsibilities

Provide behavioral and emotional support to students in an integrated classroom environment Implement individualized treatment plans and behavior intervention strategies in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team Facilitate social-emotional learning, coping strategies, clinical group and life skills programming Promote a safe, inclusive, and trauma-informed classroom environment Collect and maintain documentation, progress notes, and behavioral data in compliance with program standards Support crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies when required Collaborate with parents/guardians, educators, and clinicians to ensure continuity of care and student success

Qualifications:



Diploma or Degree in Child & Youth Care (or related field: Social Work, Psychology, or equivalent)

Experience:



Minimum 3 years of experience working with children/youth with behavioral, emotional, or mental health challenges Knowledge of mental health disorders, trauma-informed practice, and evidence-based interventions (e.g., CBT, DBT strategies) Strong skills in behavior management, crisis intervention, and relationship-building

Competencies:



Experience in day treatment, alternative education, or clinical settings Training in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) or BMS Knowledge of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and special education frameworks Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment

Strong clinical intervention planning abilities Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills with clients and colleagues Technologically proficiency for electronic record-keeping Commitment to professional ethics, confidentiality, and inclusive practice Capacity to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team Sound judgment, emotional intelligence and professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential situations Proficiency in documentation and case management Ability to work under pressure and in crisis situations Skilled in emotional intelligence to manage and co-regulate self and client during intensive situations

Requirements:



Proof of eligibility to work in Canada A valid Ontario driver's license and use of a reliable motor vehicle Clear Vulnerable Sector Search Successful candidates are required to provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 The linguistic requirement for this position is English. However, bilingualism French/English, will be considered an asset.

Hours of Work

Permanent full-time (35 hours per week)
