POSITION SUMMARY




(Full time term till March 31, 2026 with a possibility of extension)




Position opened until filled





The responsibilities of this position include working with children and youth on an individual and group basis. Child and Youth Coordinators help children and youth meet their basic needs, reduce social isolation, increase knowledge, skills and confidence needed to manage day-to-day life and challenges, and connect children and youth to each other and resources in the community. Child and Youth Coordinators work as part of a team to maintain the operations of the Resource Centre, including sustaining relationships with partners, supporting children and youth's unique circumstances and challenges by meeting them where they are at.


Responsibilities




Develop, implement and evaluate age appropriate child and youth programs and services that; address basic needs, provide information and resources, opportunities for connection, incorporate capacity-building and a range of education and training opportunities. Assist in incorporating family programming into the overall support to children and youth. Perform crisis support and crisis prevention by addressing addictions, mental health, family violence, food security etc. Recognize and be prepared to provide different levels of support depending on each person's needs. Barriers to accessing programs and services are identified and addressed with an equitable lens. Programs and services are provided with humility in a holistic, dignified, and respectful manner and are culturally sensitive. Build trusting, responsive relationships while consistently providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive space. Participate in program development, application, evaluation, and debriefing for continuous improvement according to policies, best practices, expectations, standards and guidelines. Engage and encourage children and youth to participate in Child and Youth Advisory meetings. Host meetings regularly and where possible, involve community members in the development and implementation of programs and services; continuously listen, acknowledge, value input and contributions. Provide knowledge of and guidance to navigate systems (e.g. legal, educational, CFS, childcare, physical and mental healthcare, etc.). Connect, network and collaborate with community supports that reflect the diversity of the community; participate in various committees, meetings and working groups, including collaborating with other Resource Centres. Supervise Child and Youth Programmers, including delegating work, supporting the development of their skill set, monitoring and evaluating their quality of work. Undertake other duties as related to the position and as reasonably assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications




Bachelor degree in Social Services (preferred); Child and Youth Care Diploma (asset) A minimum of five years' direct experience working with families A minimum of two years' direct experience working in under supported communities A minimum of two years' experience supervising and mentoring others

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities




Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required by
program needs.
Strong knowledge of child development and passion for working with young people Understanding of economic, social, and structural inequalities, such as poverty, discrimination, and social exclusion Resourceful in finding and engaging with new program and service collaborations and partnerships, specifically for children and youth Skills in risk assessments; analyzing situations and adopting effective course of action Excellent skills in; Critical thinking, sound judgement, problem solving, conflict resolution skills and behaviour management skills Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information Knowledge of neurodiversity and toxic stress Knowledge of current and emerging needs within communities served
