Aplin has partnered with a company based in Atlantic Canada to lead their next search for a Chief Software Engineer to join their team. This role can be done completely remotely from anywhere in Canada.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced technical leader to bring their knowledge, experience, and vision to an established development team. The individual should be comfortable leading a team of developers and growing the technical team as needed. They will provide architectural guidance and have an interest in current trends and best practices.

The Chief Software Engineer will have the opportunity to develop and release new products and features across the company's portfolio. They should be comfortable leading conversations with directors and clients to help move the company forward.

Responsibilities:

Technical Strategy:

• Responsible for the overall technical strategy
• Identify competitive advantages and opportunities for strategic expansion and market share acquisition
• Identify complementary markets for strategic expansion opportunities
• Develop and maintain a three-year roadmap aligned with strategic business goals and
• growth acquisition targets

Overseeing Development:

• Responsible for overseeing the development team and achieving a regular delivery cadence
• Breaking down complex development needs into manageable chunks, implemented in monthly sprints
• Delivering an MVP-style approach with continued agile development that consistently
• adds value monthly
• Review existing code base to ensure suitability for long-term goals
• Review and manage technical debt, owning development processes to ensure the best practices are followed
• Standards and Improvements
• Establish and maintain secure development standards
• Architectural leadership and design for new and existing projects
• Responsible for continuous integration and continuous delivery process
• Aid in the skills development of technology team members

Qualifications:

• Minimum 10+ years of development experience
• Minimum 5+ years of application architecture experience
• Minimum 5+ years of leadership experience as a team lead/project coordinator/etc.
• Strong understanding of current security requirements and standards
• Qualification in Agile development
• Project management experience, managing or leading projects of $1M+ USD
• Experience with client-side JavaScript development including Ember JS
• Experience with React, Redux, REST APIs, ReactDND, PHP, and TypeScript
• Experience with API design, event-handling, and asynchronous programming
• Experience in Linux Systems Administration and Software Configuration Management
• (SCM) including AWS, DevOps, Build/Release Management, and Cloud Management
• Experience with AWS EC2, RDS, auto-scaling, load balancers, Azure, and Docker
• Database experience with SQL Server, MySQL, PoststgreSQL, and MongoDB
• Familiarity with NetSuite by Oracle is a plus
